Gross Movie Reviews #115By Tim Gross “What do you want with them? All that is up there is… dead folk!” (Nightbreed)

AVP-R (Theater) – Without much help from Paul Anderson this time around the film picks up directly after the end of the last film. The hybrid Predator/Alien is now living and killing all the surprised Predators on the ship. Right before the last Predator dies he sends a distress call and the ship ends up crash landing on earth. One lone Predator comes to the distress call and Aliens begin to wreck havoc on earth or in Colorado in this case and begin to kill all humans they come in contact with as they begin to make it their home. The film sounds great right? Well, wrong… the film spends way too much time trying to develop the human characters on earth. For the love of God people, it’s “AVP” the sequel! Yes, we get to see lots of Alien/Predator fighting, tons of gore and a kid dies, but half of the movie is character development and trying to correct little mistakes made in the past and making sure everything ties in with the rest of the Alien/Predator movie universe. Hollywood, this should have been a kick ass blood bath from the beginning! I had all the character development I needed in the first “AVP”! It was a better movie than the first but not enough for me to actually enjoy what should have been one of the best films of 2007! One highlight though is Robert (Lifeforce) Joy playing a Colonel giving the okay to level the Colorado town and having a big part in how the film ends, but too little, too late! I give the film 2 stars as I hope they make a new Predator or Alien stand alone film before they tackle another “AVP” sequel!

Riki-OH: The Story of Ricky (VHS) – A balls to walls kung fu story about a man named Ricky, who seems to possess superpowers as he rips out people’s stomachs, punches holes through people’s chests, and makes their heads explode on impact of his fist! It’s the future and he goes to prison for manslaughter where if he doesn’t make friends he is killing off all the top tough guys there! There is shitloads of blood and gore, and the movie is just fucking awesome! I give it 4 stars.

Night of the Living Dorks (DVD) – A German horror/comedy about some high school geeks who accidentally turn into zombies and find their new abilities of being dead a way to be popular and have a big party at their house. Cool effects and funny dialogue make this film one kick ass funny teen horror flick! I give it 3 ½ stars.

Terror Toons (DVD) - Lizzie Borden mostly known for her so-called porn work and her stint in XPW stars in this adventurous film that deals with animation on a low budget level. While watching a new cartoon, Lizzie becomes hypnotized by the cartoon’s good doctor and his pet gorilla and come into reality to break up her sister’s party. I give the film credit for being different and trying something somewhat new on the low budget level but it fails to deliver anything but a boring and annoying slasher film that could have been better if it would been a short film instead of a feature length film. The film is worth at least one watch and can be found at www.braindamagefilms.com as I give the film 1 ½ stars.

Fido (DVD) – A very different take on the zombie genre as the story looks to be set in the 1950s where the zombie attack has come and gone and zombies have been… house broken! With these collars the zombies wear around their necks, it makes them controllable and controls their hunger for flesh. Most zombies are butlers, caddies, stockboys, and even pets. The main plotline pretty much runs like an old “Lassie” episode. Where a kid becomes friends with his new pet and the pet saves him whenever the kid is in trouble. Funny at times and original for an oversaturated genre, I give the movie 3 stars.

Creatures From the Pink Lagoon (DVD) – A funny movie about a gathering of gay friends for a birthday where they end up under attack by gay zombies and has underlying gay love story with it! Yes, gay zombies and they explain how you can tell they are gay zombies. I thought I seen everything until I seen this! The film is shot in black and white B-movie fashion and set in the 50s like the Universal Monster film. Lots of gay references but in all good fun (like a Judy Garland song killing some of the gay zombies) with its all gay cast also. This film is a must see for all as this would have been a perfect midnight theater film that could be shown for many weekends. I give the film 3 stars.

This Filthy World [John Waters] (DVD-R) – John Waters’s stand-up routine that features lots of gay jokes about the different gay communities, the president, etc. Plus John talks a lot in depth about his film career as he takes you through his earliest film to his latest film and his latest ventures and all the stories in-between! His monologue is not only witty but very interesting as he tells how there was no film permits back in the day and what it was like to work with real Hollywood actors such as Johnny Depp. If you ever were interested in John Waters as a person and filmmaker as I am, or have always been a huge fan of his work this is a must own as I give it 3 stars.

Skeeter (DVD) – Charles (Body Count) Napier, Michael (American Gothic) Pollard, Jim Youngs (who in the fuck is this guy), and Tracy Griffith take on monstrous mosquitoes which have been mutated by poor toxic waste storage! If that isn’t enough to watch then Tracy is as she is a very sexy, fiery hot redhead that is a male and sometimes female horror fan’s dreamgirl! Dam she is fucking hot… But anyhow I give this horror classic 3 stars and it is available on DVD by itself with no extras or on a Triple Feature with the classics “Xtro” and “Xtro 2”!
