Gross Movie Reviews #99
By Tim Gross

Correction to the review of the “The Traveler” in the last batch of reviews, 1) it still sucks big gross sickly cock, 2) Bruce Lentz of Incredibly Strange Video or www.incrediblystrangevideo.com that it has been released by Brain Damage Films in a combo pack with four other movies called, “Sick Psychos” or “Psycho Killers”. Does it actually really matter?

Full Moon High (VHS) – An early 80s werewolf film that stars Adam Arkin, Pat Moriata, Bob Saget, and Ed ‘freakin’ McMahon! Well anyhow, Adam plays a football player in the late 50s who gets attacked by a werewolf on an overseas trip with his dad, Ed McMahon who happens to be a CIA agent! The movie gets weirder by the minute as Adam decides he can’t stay around his old home and high school as he becomes a werewolf with every full moon. He leaves his home and returns 22 years later only to return to his high school and play football again to win the big game… No booze or drugs are needed to witness this weird ass werewolf movie as I give it 3 stars for all the Hollywood names in it.

Halloween (remake) (DVD-R) – Apparently everybody and their mother has found out there is a work print of the film we seen in the theaters and has downloaded it to give to everybody (explaining the copy I received on a Friday night by an unknown source). But anyway, different scenes in how Michael Myers escapes and how Dr. Loomis is portrayed and including a different ending are the highlights of this work print. Now I don’t care for the ending exception that like the original it was suppose to be final before once again the studio stepped in. Like it, hate it, it was cool to see this other print but when it comes down to it, it just turned out to be a little above or just average slasher film with me giving the work print 2 ½ stars same as the theatrical print.

Dance With A Vampire (DVD) – Vampires that love disco, a bumbling vampire hunter, and gratuitous training scenes of the main character not seen since Van Damme’s legendary “Kickboxer” or Chuck Norris’s “Sidekicks” and you have your movie. Think a little bit of a mix of “Love at First Bite” with George Hamilton and “Sundown” with Bruce Campbell on a very low budget level. Plain and simple I have to give credit to the filmmakers for trying with this idea. I give the film 2 ½ stars and you can find it for sale or more about it at www.zpmovies.com or www.myspace.com/zpinternational .

Dead Moon Rising (DVD) – Something mysterious is going on as the people of Louisville, Kentucky, are all turning into zombies. A low budget flick with lots of blood, gore, and zombie extras and a man who is the manager at a car rental place telling you the story of how he and friends saved Louisville! A lot like “Zombie Cult Massacre” in the ways of lots of gore, bikers, a hot chick, and a low budget that means a fulfilled entertaining zombie film for the average horror fan. I give the movie 3 stars and you can buy at www.deadmoonrising.com along with some other merchandise.

Evil (DVD) – A Greek version of 28 Days Later that has some “Bad Taste” humor with a beginning that reminded me of “Demons” or “Gates of Hell”. Lots of blood, lots of zombies, and lots of weird Greek people, I give it 3 stars.

Maneater (DVD/Sci-fi Channel) – Gary Busey is a cop chasing down a killer tiger in the woods… Need I say more, I give it ½ star!

Acne (DVD) – An odd low budget movie that was filmed in black and white that is about the top of teenagers’ heads exploding open and oozing out goo after they drink the water that has been contaminated! But two teenagers keep their wits about themselves and search for the reason why this is only happening to teenagers. The DVD has some cool extras and I give it 3 stars.

The Expedition (DVD) – Somebody ripping off the shitty film “The Blair Witch Project” but the setting is the Saratoga Asylum. Kinda plays out like a bad episode of “Ghost Hunters” more than anything, I give it ½ star and you can find it at www.braindamagefilms.com .

Slaughtered (DVD) – Marilyn Manson’s ugly twin is a serial killer who kills hot women to take pictures of and put them on his website “Slaughtered Sheep”. But just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse the ghosts of the women he kills come back to haunt him as he tries to continue his killing spree for his website. Boring as hell and pretty much the hot naked women are the only thing that is worth abusing yourself for watching this flick. Many in the media would consider this ‘torture porn’, me I consider it torture for watching it and not turning it off to go watch some porn! I give it ½ star for the naked women!

NEW FAY WRAY DOC WITH PETER JACKSON AND

NAOMI WATTS SNEAKED AT ICON’S 100TH

Special Preview Footage Screens Sept. 18 at New York City’s Film Forum

NEW YORK, NY – September 10, 2007 - On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of screen icon Fay Wray (1907-2004), Second Act Productions announces a new feature-length documentary based on her life, and her relationship with her friend, the award-winning filmmaker Rick McKay. “Fay Wray: A Life,” is a first time ever hybrid of star biography and road movie as the younger director and older film star travel the globe in planes, trains, automobiles and even a vaporetto in Venice, while the screen legend regales with never-before-told tales of Tinseltown. The documentary covers Wray’s experiences in a veritable century of American entertainment while documenting the unlikely friendship between the movie star and the half-century younger filmmaker.

McKay, director and producer of the hit theatrical release, “Broadway: The Golden Age,” (now airing on PBS and a Sony/BMG DVD release), met Wray in the early ‘90s while interviewing her for a magazine and a friendship quickly blossomed. They were soon traveling to film festivals in Paris, Venice, London and Vienna, and attending the Oscars together. While driving through small towns, foreign countries or the Hollywood Hills Wray tells of coming to America on a daring trip by stagecoach over the Canadian Rockies almost a century before and of early Hollywood in the ‘20s and ‘30s. Candidly, Wray shares stories of the kidnapping of her daughter, blackmail threats against her mother, and romantic relationships with Howard Hughes and Clifford Odets. Wray shares intimate stories of working with the century’s most important directors and stars from the legendary era of silent film in the ‘20s through the Golden Ages of both film and television over the next 50 years. Wray’s work in over 80 films includes the film classics “King Kong,” “Mystery of the Wax Museum” and “The Most Dangerous Game,” while her television work includes one of the medium’s first series, “Pride of the Family,” where her daughter was played by Natalie Wood, as well as numerous episodes of “Perry Mason,” “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “Playhouse 90,” “Studio 57” and more.

The centenary celebration of Wray’s birth (September 15th, 1907) includes a special evening at New York City’s Film Forum on Tuesday, September 18th, 2007, with Wray’s 1927 silent film “The Wedding March,” where she was handpicked by her costar, director Eric Von Stroheim, screening alongside the first peek at a quarter hour of McKay’s Fay Wray documentary. The evening will include special appearances by McKay, Wray’s daughter/actress Susan Riskin, film historian Foster Hirsch and Film Forum’s Bruce Goldstein.

Naomi Watts and Peter Jackson, the star and director of the 2005 remake of “King Kong,” participate in McKay’s film, “Fay Wray: A Life,” including never-before-seen footage from the historic dinner McKay hosted where Jackson met his childhood idol Wray for the first time and Wray passed the proverbial baton to Watts and approved her casting. Wray’s last public appearance was at the theatrical premiere of McKay’s film, “Broadway: The Golden Age,” which was also her last film appearance.

Peter Jackson, a fan of “Broadway: The Golden Age,” has invited McKay to his New Zealand studio for post-production on the Wray film, which begins in March 2008. An art-house release is expected for summer/fall 2008 in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the theatrical release of the original 1933 “King Kong,” followed by international TV and DVD.
