Gross Movie Reviews #95
By Tim Gross
Evil Aliens (DVD) – A Region 2 DVD that is worth seeking out. Think ‘Bad Taste’ storyline, with the gore and fun of ‘Dead Alive’ you have this funny ass movie about a mock UFO TV show that goes to remote part of the country to interview a pregnant woman about her abduction and set up a mock UFO abduction for the show. Problem there is real aliens running around killing country folk along with the UFO show crew in a bloody manner that Peter Jackson would be proud of! Great film, I give it 4 stars.
Don’t Go in the Woods (DVD) – A low budget slasher from years ago about a mountain man who haunts the mountains and hunts humans! For the hardcore slasher film fans only, I give it 2 stars.
Sands of Oblivion (DVD/Sci-Fi Channel) – George Kennedy and two cast members from the “Firefly†TV series star in this flick about back in the 1920s, C.C. Demille used real curse Egyptian artifacts for a scene in one of his movies then buried in the California dessert. The film set is now in present day being raised for some Hollywood museum. The curse gets out and begins to kill everyone at the digging site. Boring movie at times but with some good murder scenes. I give the film 1 ½ stars.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Season Three (DVD) – More misadventures of Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad torturing their neighbor Carl in 13 more 12 minute episodes that features drunk aliens among other things and aliens that give you the finger. If this TV series doesn’t make you smoke pot while watching it I don’t know what will. I give it 4 stars.
The Man with No Name Trilogy (DVD Box Set) – Before you ask, it is freakin Clint Eastwood… The spaghetti westerns that inspired many filmmakers such as John Carpenter! Sergio Leone is a genius when it came to westerns. The first film “Fistful of Dollars†has Clint Eastwood as the ‘man with no name’ who pits two families in an old run down town against each other for profit and to clean up the town. The second film “For a Few Dollars More†introduces the second main character of the trilogy, Lee Van Cleef who is an aging bounty hunter that wants revenge against a certain leader of some bandits and joins forces with the ‘man with no name’ to gain the upper hand on the bandits. Some awesome music and gunfight scenes highlight this film. The third film “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly†is possibly the best western ever made and violent also. This third film was not as violent as “The Wild Bunch†but a lot for a mid-60s film. But the third film introduces the third main character of the series, Eli Wallach and possibly the most memorable in this unbelievable beautiful film from the hangings at the beginning of the film to the huge Civil War scene to the long dramatic, nail biting scene that pits all three main characters in a gun fight like no other! There has been no westerns made like it but many try to match it or reproduce it with regularity. Till this day the films are what define Clint Eastwood and his career even though he has many other great movies. I give the set of three movies 4 stars and a must have set.
The Monster Squad (DVD) – Finally 20 years later horror fans are blessed with a 80s classic on DVD and loaded with many extras that include two commentaries, deleted scenes, and a never before seen interview with Frankenstein in 1986! The title alone is all you need to know about this 4 star movie.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space (DVD) – Evil clowns come to a small California town and terrorize it as they are here to turn people into cotton candy for food for them. A cult film from the late 80s that is still shown at midnight theaters today that gives you the reason why a lot of people fear clowns. Lots of bad jokes, great clown costumes, and John Vernon make this low budget film very unique and still fun to watch. The DVD includes everything you can think of about the film except the music video which was available on some VHS copies and Laserdiscs. I give it 4 stars.
Mustang Sally’s Horror House (DVD) – A low budget film that resembles somewhat plot wise to a ‘Hostel’, ‘Wolf Creek’, etc. about prostitutes who kill some young studs after having sex with them. Lots of boring dialogue, but lots of low budget gore and nudity highlight this film that has a very stupid and senseless ending. I give the film 1 star.
