Rat Problem hits the AP!

Rats! Rodent Problem Plagues Stadium
(Thanks to AP)

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 5) - Angels in the outfield, rodents in the concession stand.

County health officials say they’re stepping up enforcement at Angel Stadium, where they’ve found 118 vermin violations at stadium kiosks and restaurants over the last 2 1/2 years. That’s a far worse record than Southern California’s other two major-league ballparks.

Local health officials have decided to step up enforcement at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. They have recorded 118 vermin violations at kiosks and restaurants at the ballpark in the past 2 1/2 years.

Pest Problem
In the 412 inspections of Angel Stadium food venues since 2005, 25 percent turned up rodent violations.

Thirty-three of those reports represent “major” violations, in which “rodent activity” was observed by health inspectors in a “critical area” of 18 stadium food venues, the Orange County Register reported Sunday.

In the 412 routine inspections of Angel Stadium food venues conducted by the county Health Care Agency since 2005, vermin violations were found 25 percent of the time.

“We realize we have an issue at Angel Stadium,” said Richard Sanchez, the agency’s director of environmental health. “We’re stepping up enforcement.”

In about the same period, San Diego’s Petco Park had two vermin violations and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles had seven, the Register reported, citing records.

Tim Mead, vice president of communications for the Angels, blamed the infestation on heavy rains in 2005 that contributed to an increase in the rodent population.

“That’s a generalization, not an excuse,” he said. “I’m not here to offer excuses. We’re here to strive for perfection.”

The stadium agreed to step up pest-control efforts at a March 2006 hearing with health care officials, but 80 of the violations, and 15 of the major ones, were spotted after that hearing. So far this year there have been two major incidences of vermin, one forcing the temporary closure of the Angelitos Terrace restaurant.

Mike McKay, stadium director of facilities services, said discarded food and unwashed dishes sometimes sit for up to 12 hours. Whether it’s a day game or a night game, maintenance crews begin cleaning around 5 a.m. the next day, he said.

“It’s a matter of sanity,” he said. “This group of people get shifted around a lot. It’s hard to find people to do that on a consistent basis.”

At Petco Park, crews begin cleaning as soon as the fans clear out, said Ben Coughlin, a spokesman for the Padres’ stadium.

Gross Movie Reviews #96

Gross Movie Reviews #96
By Tim Gross

Night of the Comet (DVD) – Just like “The Monster Squad”, over twenty years later we the horror fans finally get a DVD release of this cult classic about a comet that passes by earth and kills or mutates anybody that wasn’t in a steel box. A couple valley girls survive and the hope of the world is in their hands. Fun movie to watch but big problem with the DVD, no freakin extras… I still give it 4 stars.

Primeval (DVD) – A big budget killer crocodile film set in Africa about American journalists trying to get the story on the big killer croc. Problem with this big budget ‘animal attacks’ film is it plays out more like a low budget Sci-fi Channel Saturday Night flick with lots of CGI gore. Want a real killer animal film, “Day of the Animals” or “Alligator” are classics, I give this one 2 stars.

300 (DVD) – Frank Miller’s vision of the myth of 300 Spartans taking on the world when they are threaten with slavery! Right to the point, it is one kick ass violent fantasy film that needs to be watched over and over! I give it 4 stars.

The Host (DVD) – A kick ass sea monster is attacking people near a river in Korea. Should have been a great film but almost sucked the life out of me with its long, drawn out, and useless storyline of the family that overshadows one of the best looking sea monsters for a horror film in years. I advise just watching the parts with the monster, I give it 1 ½ stars.

Zodiac (DVD) – A two and half hour film that chronicles the lives of the reporters and policemen investigating the mysterious “Zodiac killer” and how it affected their lives and who is believed to be the mysterious serial killer that was never caught. The film is just brilliant and well acted as it just sucks you into the timeline of when the killings happen and what was the aftermath at the time of when San Francisco was stricken with fear! One of the best films of 2007, as I give it 4 stars.

Bram Stoker’s Way of the Vampire (DVD/Sci-Fi Channel) – A pile of crap, plain and simple. I give it 0 stars.

Insaniac (DVD) – A bad film about a woman trying to recover lost memories to help her with the present, otherwise it was a big pile of donkey shit! I give it 0 stars.

Last House on Hell St. (DVD) – A horrible film about possession, on a budget of about $6.32. What do you think? I give it 0 stars.

When Shadows Lie Darkest (DVD) – A short film about a man who is losing his mind and doesn’t know who is killing everyone around him. I give it 1 star. You can find more about this film at www.fearfilm.com .

Blackout (DVD) – A 44 minute film about a ghost seeking revenge. It has a weak storyline but some gore, excellent soundtrack and above average acting on a no budget. I give it 2 ½ stars and you can find at www.fearfilm.com .

The Seekers (DVD) – A low budget rip off of “The Ring” in some ways where a VHS tape is played and people die with a twist connected to it. Lots of topless women and gore keep me from slitting my wrists while watching this weak 77 minute movie. I give it 3 stars for the boobies and blood, but 1 ½ stars overall! You can find out more at www.pipedreament.com .

Any comments or questions please send to: LAN_EMAIL_SUBS or www.myspace.com/slasherfilmfan , plus you can also find my two horror movie review books, “Gross Movie Reviews Volume One and Two”. They are available at: www.lulu.com and www.amazon.com . You can also find them at Monroeville Borders, NDC in Century III Mall, and Incredibly Strange Video. You can find other things from me at www.bastardsofhorror.com , www.bloodtypeonline.com , and in the movie review section of Ultra Violent magazine (www.uvmagazine.com). Remember folks if you are renting from Blockbuster you are not renting from the best! Support your local independent video store! It will keep horror alive………

What you need to look for from Tiffany Apan in the next few months!

Posted by Tim on August 6, 2007

Hi everyone,

I figured that since I have many events coming up (such as concerts, film releases, promo appearances), I thought I would fill you all in on more details on the shows, projects, and some of the amazing people I am having the privelege of working with.

As far as the music is concerned the info is as follows:

The first musical concert will be The Greater Cleveland Gallaria and Arts Festival with SPARX Gallery Hop on September 15 and 16. It will take place at The Gallaria at Erieview. For more info either go to my website at http://www.tiffany-apan.com/appearances.html or go to the North Coast Promo website at http://www.northcoastpromo.com You can also take a peek at the venue and location at http://www.gallariaaterieview.com

The second one will be The Harvest Moon Coffeehouse on September 23 at the Bryn Mawr Church of Christ basement. This event is an annual event for Fall Harvest. The mastermind behind the event is Chuck Owsten who is not only the minister of this church but also a talented and accomplished musician. He has 40 years in the industry and has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He has played on various albums and has recorded some of his own and with his band, Bonfire Night as well as plays and tours periodically. Each year Chuck invites his musician friends to play at this funfilled event. It is said that they serve a cider that is “colder than an executioner’s heart.” It is a chance for people both in and out of the church to gather and enjoy coffee and fall inspired beverages, refreshments and some great music! The lineup as I know it includes Chuck Owsten and the accoustic band Dead Man’s Shilling, myself, Vequinox, and Scott Helland and his band of traveling gypsy nomads. I am very happy to be part of this event with a great lineup of artists and hope for many more shows with Chuck. For more info on Chuck Owsten and his musical acts, go to the following links:

http://www.myspace.com/bonfirenightmusic

http://www.myspace.com/chuckowsten

http://www.shogem.co.uk/chuck/index.htm

There is also another gig set for August 2, 2008 at the Indie Filmworkers Banquet in Cleveland/Independance, Ohio. More info on that as it is given to me.

There will also be concerts set up through Mordant Productions. Mordant Productions is run by Joe Pressley, a good friend of mine. They’ve brought in acts such as Bella Morte, Voltaire, Attrition and others. More info on shows through them will be posted as info is given to me.

We are also in the process of aquiring distribution deals of the “Poet” album with Borders and other stores. There also may be performances/CD signings at these stores and our friends in Cleveland have brought up the idea for a CD release party in the Cleveland area.

As far as some of the masterminds behind the music I do, I write most of the lyrics and melodies and I’m brushing up on my piano skills so I can accompany myself at shows. But, all the writing and arrangement of the music is done by Jason English. Jason has 23 years of experience playing in rock, southern rock, and heavy metal bands (I am now challenging him with classical musc :P). His previous bands include Related Force, Charmed by Cherries and Society of Sound. While he can play bass, keyboards, and drums he is most noted for his talent in guitar playing. Jason has also scored films (”Meat For Satan’s Ice Box” being one). He is about to co score the soundtrack to the upcoming “LaFemme Bond” with Pinpoint Productions. There will soon be more info on Jason on a new upcoming website.

Another person who has been a tremendous help with the music is Mark Kapsha. Mark also has many years of playing music behind him. Some of his previous bands include Sporting Woodrow and Society of Sound. He is now with the newly formed The Badheadz. He also does consultant work for the band, Weathered Soul. On top of that he is also an accomplished graphic designer and is excellent with photography and video as well. He has participated in the mixing and engineering of some of the songs on the “Poet” album and will be doing the photography for the “Poet” album cover. He is also contributing to the design of Tiffany Apan shirts and possibly other merchandise. For more info visit http://www.myspace.com/kapsha or http://www.myspace.com/thebadheadz

As for film, I have projects “Winslowe Asylum” and “Heavy Mental” being released this year. “Winslow Asylum” is written and directed by Greg Laudermilt of Dark Wind Woods Productions. “Winslow” is set for theatrical release in October and the world premiere at the Lincoln Theatre in Cleveland Ohio. Greg and his company have had good media coverage in the Ohio state. Their first short film “Dark Wind Woods” was given 3 out of 4 stars by Tim Gross in Gross Movie Reviews Volume 1. It has also been played at film conventions such as Twisted Nightmare and Dark Xmas. I have also been asked about “Winslow” in my interviews with Deadpit Radio, Racks and Razors, Mike’s Insane Plan, and Search My Trash. The teasers for “Winslow” were played at the Indie Film Gathering this passed weekend. Greg has also done interivews with Ohio newspapers and film websites. In this film, I play Sadie Rae; a mental patient with a very interesting and tragic story.

In “Heavy Mental,” I play a news reporter who covers the Detroit murders. It is by Silver Bullet Pictures. This is a company with a rising fanbase. They are a company based in Detroit, Michigan. For more info, visit http://www.silverbulletpictures.com

Jason and I will also be participating in a documentary on the film industry based on online radio websites, particularly Deadpit Radio. The documentary will be titled “Into the Pitt.” It will be filmed by Jim Bett Jr. and Jason and I will be interviewed for it at the Fright Night Film Festival in Lousiville Kentucky.

We are also working on the “Ghost” music video with DEG Photo Design/Pinpoint Productions in addition to working with them on “LaFemme Bond.” “La Femme Bond” also stars Joni Gomez and Robyn Griggs.

Well, that is some more info on some of the events, projects, and people I work with.
