(Thanks to Dead Pit)
Deadlands: The Rising will be playing in France in August 2007 at the Weekend De Le Peur film fest, and in October 2007 I will be at the Full Moon Horror Con and Film Festival. Deadlands is entered into competition. The folks at Full Moon also invited me down to promote the movie, and are setting up a table for me. Kudo’s to them.
Deadlands will also play in Bloomington, IN in August 2007 during the Dark Carnival Film Fest and is entered into competition for the Spooky Movie Film Festival.
My Next project… Well I was contacted by the folks at Art Held Hostage productions and I have been invited as one of 6 directors for a zombie Anthology project. The project will feature 6 - 15-20 minute short films based in the zombie universe. I just locked my script which is tentatively titled The Escape and the estimated running time will probably be at 25 minutes as they had asked me to expand it a little more and when you ask me to do that its never a good thing. We expect to film my segment in early October 2007.
Deadlands 2… this is a touchy subject. After Deadlands did a theatrical run I was actually able to get an agent and this agent has been really pushing both the first film and the script for the second. At one point I was in talks to remake Deadlands 1 on a bigger budget, but things didn’t go the way I was expecting, as the studio wanted to combine the first film with elements from the second script, there was also casting disagreements, and at one point talk of a PG-13 rating surfaced… So you can imagine where that went.
The project then moved to another studio which pretty much went the same way, except no mention of a PG-13, but talk of shooting it in the Czech republic and again some casting disagreements and I was ask to tone down the amount of violence in the script. I offered to sell them the story and they do it the way they want, but I wasn’t cutting it down… and I would have just started another zombie franchise on my own. I can be a stubborn prick and I don’t like the way hollyweird is toning things down so I made it pretty loud and clear.
I then came across the Full Moon Fest and Contest so I submitted the Deadlands 2 screenplay into the competition and if I win they offer to make the film and distribute it. Full Moons stuff is now under Warner Brothers so thats a plus. However, my next project will not be DL2, I am going to do this Zombie Anthology flick, then see what happens with the Full Moon film fest.
Also there is a small cause for celebration… Deadlands 1 has gone onto another pressing so thats some nice news, and it still tends to do really well as a low budget indie flick.
Once the zom-thology project picks up some more steam I will drop you guys more information about. If you live in the Maryland area watch out for the zombie casting calls.
