Actor Jason Mewes to Appear at the 2007 Eerie Horror Film Festival

Posted by Tim on July 23, 2007

Erie,Pa- The Eerie Horror Film Festival has announced that Actor Jason Mewes, best known for roles in several Kevin Smith comedies, will be appearing at their annual event in October.

Mewes earned immediate cult status for his portrayal of the character Jay in 1994’s indie classic, “Clerks”, a film that also catapulted director Kevin Smith into the mainstream almost overnight.

Smith also appeared in the film as Jay’s sidekick, Silent Bob, providing a perfect compliment for Mewe’s character.

The comedic duo of Jay and Silent Bob proved so popular with fans that Mewes and Smith reprised their roles in several follow up films including, “Mallrats”, “Chasing Amy”, “Dogma” and “Clerks 2″. In 2001, the characters were given their own feature length movie, “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”.

While Mewes is most associated with the comedy genre, he has recently made appearances in a handful of horror films, including “Scream 3″, “The Tripper” and the 2005 Project Greenlight film, “Feast”.

Mewes will be visiting the Eerie Horror Film Festival in October to support his latest horror/comedy, “Netherbeast Incorporated”, a humorous film about vampires set in modern day corporate America.

Filmmakers Brian and Dean Ronalds will also be in attendance.

“I think it’s awesome to see Jason Mewes venturing into horror movie territory”, said Festival Director Greg Ropp, “and we’re very excited to have him at our show this year!”

The Eerie Horror Film Festival & Expo takes place October 10 - 14, 2007 at the Erie Playhouse and Avalon Hotel in Erie, Pa.

Gross Movie Reviews #94

Gross Movie Reviews #94
By Tim Gross

Cut (DVD) – A small budget slasher film made in Australia that stars Molly Ringwald as an actress who decides to come back to finish filming on a film that almost killed her 15 years earlier. A college student chooses a horror film that was never finished as her senior project even though her professor who was apart of the first film crew tries to explain to her it should not be taken lightly the curse behind it. People die everytime the film is either restarted or shown. The movie runs at a lean and mean 85 minutes that has lots of cool murder scenes and is an overlooked modern day slasher that is worth seeking out. I give it 3 ½ stars.

Supergator (DVD/Sci-fi Channel) - Roger Corman puts together some “Dino Croc” footage and possibly some “Piranha” footage and you have “Supergator” which is a CGI bloodfest for the most part. Is it worth watching? No, stick with “Dino Croc”… I give it ½ star.

From Dusk Till Dawn (DVD) – One of the coolest and baddest vampire flicks made in the past 30 years! First half of the movie is about the “Gecko” brothers escaping police after a jailbreak trying to make to Mexico to pick up their money. Lots of action, blood, and terror. Second half becomes a vampire stripper fest like no other with stars like Tom Savini, Fred Williamson, and others joining in on the action of killing the vampire strippers! One of the top three vampire films of all time! Haven’t seen it, for the love of god George Clooney stars in it, then you must be brain dead! I give it 4 stars.

From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (DVD) – This film directed by Scott Spiegel and has a cameo appearance by Bruce Campbell stars Robert Patrick as part of a five man gang who are going to rob a bank in Mexico. Problem one of them get bitten by a vampire and all hell breaks loose as one by one becomes a vampire until it is up to Robert Patrick to pick between being caught by the cops or becoming a vampire. Low budget but a fun follow up to watch! I give it 2 ½ stars.

From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman’s Daughter (DVD) – A prequel to the original about some bandits who are being pursued by a man who try to hang the leader who took his daughter and a couple of bible thumpers who stumble across the “Titty Twister” stripper vampire bar and try to survive till morning! A few subplots all come together once they make to the bar. Again a direct to video low budget film not as good as the original but still fun to watch. I give it 2 ½ stars.

Def-Con 4 (VHS) – A classic 80s film about astronauts who come back to earth two months later after WWIII hits. Radiation is killing the atmosphere and people are eating other people to survive. But there is hope as one astronaut eventually makes friends with a school girl and a man trying to survive alone who know about a sailboat and a kid commander who is ruling his village with an iron fist and plans to leave them all to a place that has no fallout. Very dimly lite and dark film about what could happen after WWIII. I give it 3 stars.

Razorback (VHS) – An American reporter is killed by a massive killing machine called a ‘razorback’ which is considered a legend only around the outback of Australia. The husband travels to the outback to try and find his dead wife and avenge her death. I give it 3 stars.

The Illusionist (DVD) – Ed Norton Jr. plays a very talented illusionist who helps get Jessica Biel’s character away from a prince who has been known to beat his women and plus she is in love with Ed! Entertaining enough to kill time but if something better is around I’m watching it. I give it 2 stars.

Underworld (DVD) – Also known as “Transmutations” here in the states is a movie based on a Clive Barker script in 1985 about a doctor who has a stronger drug than heroin for drug addicts but it deforms them and is more addictive than anything else. The mob hires an old friend to find where the mutants have taken a woman or hooker who is not affected by the drug. Plays out more like a crime thriller than horror but is worth the find if you are a hardcore Clive Barker fan? I give it 2 stars. It can be found on Region 2 DVD in the UK or an out of print VHS here in the states.

A Return To Salem’s Lot (VHS) – Michael Moriarty stars in this Larry Cohen film that is the follow-up to the original TV movie. Not much on the original storyline but separates it from the original enough to be a fun watch. Some cheesy vampire effects and lots of blood highlight fun vampire sequel. I give it 3 stars.
