A NEW URBAN GHOST STORY…
MTI HOME VIDEO’s
On DVD September 11, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Miami, FL (July 31, 2007) — It seemed like the kind of house where no one asked questions… and, from the moment John moved in, he knew something was not right… This September, audiences will discover his worst fears when MTI Home Video releases THE HAUNTING OF #24 on DVD September 11th (prebook August 14). The DVD will be shown in 16:9 widescreen format, with 5.1 Dolby surround sound, interactive menus, scene selection, optional Spanish subtitles, and trailers.

The British cast of THE HAUNTING OF #24 include Stuart Laing (Cradle of Fear, Devil’s Advocate), Nina Sosanya (Love Actually, Manderlay), Robert Blythe (The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain), and Susan Engel (Damage, Doctor Who: The Stones of Blood). The film was written and directed by Sean Hogan, and produced by Navin Chowdhry.

It seemed like the kind of house where no one asked you any questions. But from the moment John moved in to #24, it didn’t feel right. It’s true, he’d always suffered from nightmares… but these were different. Besides, those noises outside his door were definitely real. Or seemed to be. The mad old woman next door had told him to leave, but he hadn’t listened. Now it might be too late. The dreams were getting worse, and the doors didn’t seem to lead where they should anymore. His new home had a hold on him now, and the OTHER tenants are ready to introduce themselves.

Exorcism gone wrong hits the AP!

Man Dies After Police Break Up Exorcism
By PAUL DAVENPORT,AP

PHOENIX (July 29) - Officers responding to a report of an exorcism on a young girl found her grandfather choking her and used stun guns to subdue the man, who later died, authorities said Sunday.

The 3-year-old girl and her mother, who was also in the room during the struggle between 49-year-old Ronald Marquez and officers, were hospitalized, police said. Their condition was unavailable.

The relative who called police said an exorcism had also been attempted Thursday.

“The purpose was to release demons from this very young child,” said Sgt. Joel Tranter.

Officers arrived at the house Saturday and entered when they heard screaming coming from a bedroom, Tranter said.

A bed had been pushed up against the door; the officers pushed it open a few inches and saw Marquez choking his bloodied granddaughter, who was crying in pain and gasping, Tranter said.

A bloody, naked 19-year-old woman who police later determined to be Marquez’s daughter and the girl’s mother was in the room, chanting “something that was religious in nature,” Tranter said.

The officers forced open the door enough for one to enter, leading to a struggle in which an officer used a stun gun on Marquez, Tranter said.

After the initial stun had no visible effect, another officer squeezed into the room and stunned him. The girl was freed and passed through the door to the relative, Tranter said.

Marquez was placed in handcuffs after a struggle with officers and initially appeared normal, but then stopped breathing, Tranter said. He could not be revived and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The cause of death was not immediately known, and autopsy results probably will not be available for several weeks, Tranter said.

Tranter declined to identify Marquez’s daughter and granddaughter but said they lived in the house with Marquez.

The mother was not arrested, but police will consider criminal charges, Tranter said.

There was no phone listing at Ronald Marquez’s address.

Notables from 'Mr. Moviefone's' worst remakes ever! Plus, I throw my two cents in of course…

Posted by Tim on July 26, 2007

20. ‘Planet of the Apes’ (2001)
Tim Burton seemed the perfect man to remake the 1968 sci-fi camp classic about a world where apes enslave men. But his rehash takes itself way too seriously and ditches the iconic original ending. (No Statue of Liberty shot?! Really?) As a result, it’s the cinematic equivalent of monkey feces.

16. ‘House of Wax’ (2006)
Paris Hilton’s death scene — in which the cleavage-sporting heiress is dispatched gruesomely (and hilariously) by a deranged redneck intent on filling a wax museum with corpses — almost makes up for the horrendous plot, poor acting and lack of chills in this remake of the 1953 film of the same name … almost.

15. ‘The Stepford Wives’ (2004)
We’re not really sure what happened here: The ‘75 original was a neat little thriller; this star-studded remake came out some hodgepodge of comedy, satire and horror. Note to Nicole Kidman: Back away from the remakes (’Bewitched’ might have made our list, too, if it were a movie redo).

14. ‘The Ring Two’ (2005)
Whereas the first ‘Ring’ film pulled off an unbelievable feat and actually bested the J-horror film ‘Ringu’ upon which it was based (even more impressive considering it’s about a VHS tape that kills you), its follow-up (based on ‘Ringu 2′) was about as scary (and funny) as an episode of ‘Everybody Loves Raymond.’

12. ‘The Hitcher’ (2006)
The 1986 original is a cult classic, just pure suspense from beginning to end. Rutger Hauer is terrifying as a psychopath chasing a couple who’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. When something is this good, why chance a remake? You’ll just end up on a list like this.

10. ‘Godzilla’ (1998)
Hmm … Matthew Broderick stars in two of our worst remake designees. And this one is a remake of a remake (the ‘54 version with Raymond Burr is a redo of the original all-Japanese-cast monster mash). This big, American version just takes itself too seriously.

9. ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ (1996)
He had two Oscars, but Marlon Brando was surely prouder of the Worst Supporting Actor Razzie he won (at age 72) for donning sunglasses, white makeup and red lipstick to play genetic-mutant maestro Dr. Moreau. It was the third version of H.G. Wells’ novel, the strangest and the worst. The horror! The horror!

6. ‘When a Stranger Calls’ (2006)
“The call … It’s coming from inside the house!” That line from the ‘79 original is scarier than anything in this remake, which scored a whopping 10 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and features young, pretty people looking vacant. Forget the murderer — this film commits the far greater crime of boring us to death.

4. ‘The Wicker Man’ (2006)
The original 1974 ‘Wicker Man’ is considered one of the best, scariest British films ever. The Nicolas Cage update, however, is so un-scary that it’s quite literally hilarious: Its numerous scenes of Cage beating up (and being beaten up by) women make it one of the most underrated unintentional comedies of our time.

3. ‘The Fog’ (2005)
John Carpenter’s 1980 version paid homage to horror film classics just in its roster of stars (Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Adrienne Barbeau); the 2005 remake paid homage to teenybopper TV with its cast (Tom Welling, Maggie Grace). You do the math.

2. Rollerball (2002)
We could go on forever about how this flick about a life-threatening roller-sport is utterly ridiculous and lacks the social and political commentary of the dystopian 1975 sci-fi thriller upon which it’s based. Instead, we’ll just quote star L.L. Cool J, who simply told Conan O’Brien that it “sucked.”

1. ‘Psycho’ (1998)
Why, Gus? Why? We don’t know what lunacy prompted Gus Van Sant to attempt to re-create Hitchcock’s 1960 masterpiece by mimicking every shot, yet leaving out the suspense and excitement (not to mention miscasting genial Vince Vaughn as the deranged Bates). File this bit of suckage under “P” … for pointless.

OK, ok, of course this list is missing some choices that myself and other horror fans would place here, plus a couple we would argue about. But here’s my two cents on the notables first off:

(20) Planet of the Apes: Easy choice for anybody or any fan of the original series or first film but personally this should of cracked the top five. Honestly check out the movie again and check out some of the commentaries for Kevin Smith’s movies which touch on this subject often!

(16) House of Wax: Honestly I would agree with this just because it was a Vincent Price film. But and I have to throw a but in there, I can think of four or five worst remakes. Should been off the top 25.

15. ‘The Stepford Wives’: Have no interest in what so ever I have still refused to watch the thing!

14. ‘The Ring Two’: This pile of dung should of been in the top five also. But let’s think back Mr. Moviefone, you and just about 95% of the horror fans thought this was awesome until people like myself and Dead Pit and few others explained to you how much of a dumb ass you are for liking it! All Japanese remakes in America should be in the TOP WHATEVER, because Hollywood never gets it right when it comes to these things!

12. ‘The Hitcher’ : This might be my number one pick if “Psycho” wasn’t such an easy choice. But come on every horror fan groaned in unison when this was announced. This film never had a chance! Come on its fucking Rutger Hauer, you don’t fuck with him!

10. ‘Godzilla’ : Do I need to say anything except if this wasn’t called, “Godzilla” I think more people would be singing a different tune about the film. Think about it…

9. ‘The Island of Dr. Moreau’ : good number for it to be at except I don’t think any of the remakes of the film ever got it right, let’s move on!

6. ‘When a Stranger Calls’ : To all the whiny bitches that thought this was a good idea, “Fuck off”, it sucked donkey balls!

4. ‘The Wicker Man’ : Another good choice as I don’t think I knew anyone that had any interest in this remake.

3. ‘The Fog’ : This was like somebody saying let’s redo the Holy Bible without God in it! Another possible number one…

2. Rollerball : One of the most overlooked remakes at its time because most didn’t even remember the underrated till this day James Cann 1975 flick which still kicks most films ass now!

1. ‘Psycho’ : To easy for number one for me anyhow. I forgive Vince Vaughn but I do not forgive Gus Van Sant as he may hung by his shriveled up balls from a 20 foot pole! There is others that should be here…

Other remakes that should of been here:(no order)
a) Dawn of the Dead: To keep this short, if this pile of crap is called “Crazy Fucking Zombies” and nobody makes reference before the film comes out to Romero the zombie king then there is no problem, but no so bite me fuckers!

b) Texas Chainsaw Massacre: People they gave him a name other than Junior, take off his mask, a shitty storyline, and the director in the extras of the DVD made me want to kill him, then for me to commit suicide, and kill him again in hell!

c) Body Snatchers (1993): Boring and worthless, should of continued the storyline if anything!

d) Day of the Dead: Not out yet but guess what I”m going to go out on a limb and say it sucks the pimple on a camel’s ass! And don’t say its a remake because then fuckers why isn’t using a different name then?!!!!

e) The other Day of the Dead film(direct to DVD): Hopefully those filmmakers fucking killed themselves by putting garden hoses up their ass and turning to full force!

f) Dark Water: The original was poop, the remake was poop!

g) The Hills Have Eyes: Why Wes Craven, why you old stupid fucking bastard! It was so good the sequel sucked ass too!

I’m sure there is others but I can’t think right now so please send comments here or LAN_EMAIL_SUBS , as I welcome them!

More news on Deadlands: The Rising

Posted by Tim on July 25, 2007

(Thanks to Dead Pit)

Deadlands: The Rising will be playing in France in August 2007 at the Weekend De Le Peur film fest, and in October 2007 I will be at the Full Moon Horror Con and Film Festival. Deadlands is entered into competition. The folks at Full Moon also invited me down to promote the movie, and are setting up a table for me. Kudo’s to them.

Deadlands will also play in Bloomington, IN in August 2007 during the Dark Carnival Film Fest and is entered into competition for the Spooky Movie Film Festival.

My Next project… Well I was contacted by the folks at Art Held Hostage productions and I have been invited as one of 6 directors for a zombie Anthology project. The project will feature 6 - 15-20 minute short films based in the zombie universe. I just locked my script which is tentatively titled The Escape and the estimated running time will probably be at 25 minutes as they had asked me to expand it a little more and when you ask me to do that its never a good thing. We expect to film my segment in early October 2007.

Deadlands 2… this is a touchy subject. After Deadlands did a theatrical run I was actually able to get an agent and this agent has been really pushing both the first film and the script for the second. At one point I was in talks to remake Deadlands 1 on a bigger budget, but things didn’t go the way I was expecting, as the studio wanted to combine the first film with elements from the second script, there was also casting disagreements, and at one point talk of a PG-13 rating surfaced… So you can imagine where that went.

The project then moved to another studio which pretty much went the same way, except no mention of a PG-13, but talk of shooting it in the Czech republic and again some casting disagreements and I was ask to tone down the amount of violence in the script. I offered to sell them the story and they do it the way they want, but I wasn’t cutting it down… and I would have just started another zombie franchise on my own. I can be a stubborn prick and I don’t like the way hollyweird is toning things down so I made it pretty loud and clear.

I then came across the Full Moon Fest and Contest so I submitted the Deadlands 2 screenplay into the competition and if I win they offer to make the film and distribute it. Full Moons stuff is now under Warner Brothers so thats a plus. However, my next project will not be DL2, I am going to do this Zombie Anthology flick, then see what happens with the Full Moon film fest.

Also there is a small cause for celebration… Deadlands 1 has gone onto another pressing so thats some nice news, and it still tends to do really well as a low budget indie flick.

Once the zom-thology project picks up some more steam I will drop you guys more information about. If you live in the Maryland area watch out for the zombie casting calls.

Actor Jason Mewes to Appear at the 2007 Eerie Horror Film Festival

Posted by Tim on July 23, 2007

Erie,Pa- The Eerie Horror Film Festival has announced that Actor Jason Mewes, best known for roles in several Kevin Smith comedies, will be appearing at their annual event in October.

Mewes earned immediate cult status for his portrayal of the character Jay in 1994’s indie classic, “Clerks”, a film that also catapulted director Kevin Smith into the mainstream almost overnight.

Smith also appeared in the film as Jay’s sidekick, Silent Bob, providing a perfect compliment for Mewe’s character.

The comedic duo of Jay and Silent Bob proved so popular with fans that Mewes and Smith reprised their roles in several follow up films including, “Mallrats”, “Chasing Amy”, “Dogma” and “Clerks 2″. In 2001, the characters were given their own feature length movie, “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”.

While Mewes is most associated with the comedy genre, he has recently made appearances in a handful of horror films, including “Scream 3″, “The Tripper” and the 2005 Project Greenlight film, “Feast”.

Mewes will be visiting the Eerie Horror Film Festival in October to support his latest horror/comedy, “Netherbeast Incorporated”, a humorous film about vampires set in modern day corporate America.

Filmmakers Brian and Dean Ronalds will also be in attendance.

“I think it’s awesome to see Jason Mewes venturing into horror movie territory”, said Festival Director Greg Ropp, “and we’re very excited to have him at our show this year!”

The Eerie Horror Film Festival & Expo takes place October 10 - 14, 2007 at the Erie Playhouse and Avalon Hotel in Erie, Pa.
