2007 Zombie Weekend in Pittsburgh!!!

Posted by Tim on May 30, 2007

The It’s Alive Show Announces 2007 Zombie Weekend!!!

The It’s Alive Show is presenting Pittsburgh’s first ever Zombie Weekend at the Pittsburgh Expo Mart on October 27-28, 2007. The weekend includes:

•Zombie Fest, an unconventional convention;
•Zombie Ball, featuring live music and dancing and
•Zombie Walk at the Monroeville Mall, a follow up to the Guinness World Record™ walk held in 2006 which attracted close to 1,000 participants

All events will feature activities benefiting local charities such as the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Projected attendance for the weekend’s festivities is expected to exceed 3,000 people of all ages.

At this time, the organizers are working to identify and contact potential event sponsors and exhibit vendors. We need the help of the show’s network of fans – if you have a lead on a locally based business that would be a good candidate to sponsor or exhibit, please email contact information to LAN_EMAIL_SUBS.

The weekend’s festivities are being planned through a grassroots effort of The It’s Alive Show fans who are donating their professional time and effort. We will be recruiting volunteers to assist with festival activities such as admissions, talent hospitality, zombie walk registration, make up artists, etc. later in the summer. Right now, we could use some assistance in the following areas. Please note these are uncompensated assignments – you will be working for duty & humanity, honor & glory, kicks & giggles, and maybe free admission and t-shirt.

•Sales – making follow up phone calls to potential sponsors to secure their support
•Vendor Recruitment
•Web Site Development

If you have talents or superpowers in this area that you would like to use for good, not evil, please contact Miss Dee, Rodrigo Quast or Iron Rich via the TIAS message board or email LAN_EMAIL_SUBS.

Details will be released as they become available. Clear your calendar for this weekend – it’s going to rock, and rock hard!

Gross Movie Reviews #89

Gross Movie Reviews #89
By Tim Gross

Memorial Day weekend has come and gone and there was lots of drinking and watching of some horrible, crappy, and fun horror movies. Read on…

Psycho II (VHS) – It is twenty-two years later and Norman Bates, played by Anthony Perkins has been released from an institution by a doctor who said he is cured. Norman returns to his family hotel to the disgust of some but is trying to get a steady job and move on knowing that his mother is dead. Or is she? A couple of people decide to play tricks on Norman to get him back unaware they have made him snap once again and Norman is hearing his dead mother’s voice tell him to do things! A pretty solid follow-up to one of the greatest classic horror films made of all time. This film is carried heavily on Anthony’s performance and he does not disappoint as he plays possibly the creepiest and scariest character in all of horror mainly because of it being all himself. It is a very creepy film still at times and holds its own after 25 years. Never seen it, go find it now as I give it 3 stars.

Toxic Zombies (DVD-R) – A classic unknown zombie film to most from the early 70s about drug dealing hippies who grow their crop of weed far into the mountains where cannot be found until now. A couple of FBI agents find them and the agents are killed by the hippies. In a panic from not hearing from the agents, the government decides to spray the area with an illegal chemical which of course gets on the hippies and turns them into ‘flesh eating hippie zombies’! Cheesy, a little gore, and a naked hippie make this a must buy or rent for the zombie movie loving fan. I give the movie 3 stars.

The Mutilator (DVD-R) – A really gory slasher film from the early 80s that has yet to make it on DVD in the U.S. market. Most of the gore takes place late in the movie but is well worth if you are a gorehound. A father seeks revenge on his son years later after his son accidentally shoots and kills his mother with a loaded rifle. It begins slowly but makes up for it at the end of the film. I give the movie 3 stars.

Pretty Cool Too (DVD) – A low budget sex/comedy about a nerdy high school student who has just graduated and just happens to get a prototype cell phone like no other. The phone obeys every command and changes people and makes them do whatever the nerd wants. Oh, did I mention his parents happen to live next to a house where a reality show is being filmed where women get naked for no reason. Not as funny as “American Pie” or “Porky’s” but still has some laughs. If that doesn’t get you to watch it then knowing Tiffany Shepis stars in it and more naked boobies then you can count throughout the film. I give it 2 stars.

Deathsport (VHS) – Roger Corman decides a few years later to make a sequel to ‘Death Race 2000’ starring David Carradine and a young Richard Lynch. This time around David is a man against futuristic machines and fights with a sword. Lots of motorcycle fights and B-movie deaths, but not nearly as much fun as the first movie. In an interview before the film with Roger Corman, Corman even claims he thought the movie wasn’t as good as he first thought it would be once he completed it. I give the film 2 stars.

Nightmares (VHS) – A film made in 1983 with stars like Emilio Estevez, Lance Henriksen, and others in four short films that deal with a killer rat, a killer truck, a killer arcade game, etc. you get the picture. ‘Tales from the Crypt’ will always be superior and “Creepshow” will be a fun masterpiece but ‘Nightmares’ is a worthy horror film if not just to see Lance Henriksen play a priest! I give the movie 3 stars.

Body Count (VHS) – The horror film is also called ‘Camping Del Torrore’, a little unknown Eye-talian slasher film that stars David Hess and Charles Napier. The film is about a camping ground that is haunted by an Indian spirit that kills whoever camps there. Over the years people stay away until a bunch twenty-somethings show up partying and one by one they get killed off in a very gory way! Lots of blood and the usual ‘you seen it coming’ ending are the highlights of this little known late 80s slasher film. I give the movie 2 ½ stars.

Twisted Nightmare (VHS) – A bad excuse of a slasher film made in 1987 about friends coming back to “Club Paradise”. A place that a) is supposedly built on an ancient Indian burial ground and where evil spirits live and b) where Matthew, a retarded boy was killed by a strange fire and his sister who watched over him and her friends all witnessed. They come back only two years later after the strange death two years later to party! Horrible acting and a bad script made this film unbearable to watch at times! But it is a slasher film and somebody has to watch it, I give it 1 star.

C.H.U.D. II: Bud the CHUD (VHS) – A sequel to a very cool and creepy sci-fi/horror film three years later that got panned for good reason. The B-movie has become a cult favorite to some horror fans as this time around after the CHUD’s have all been cleaned and killed off the army still has one to experiment on. He disappears after some high school students steal him and wake him up. Unknowingly waking Bud, Bud is hungry and starts his own army as he wonders around town with Robert Vaughn as an army general trying to track him down and get him back. The movie is played for cheesy laughs and pretty much has every classic line from 1987 in the film. A bad B-movie means a great time to get the six packs out and enjoy it for what it is… I give it 3 stars.

Indy Filmmaker JD Casey has passed away

Posted by Charlie on May 28, 2007

I only me t him once or twice, but JD Casey was a true friend to the genre we love and independent filmmaking. He touched a lot of lives and will be sorely missed. Debbie Rochon knew Joe better than I did so I asked her if she could write a few words on his behalf.

“Joe Casey, known professionally as JD Casey, was a true friend. He taught me how to be a great person through his endless support and friendship. He was a filmmaker. I starred in 2 of his movies and I was so proud to see how much he had grown in the short amount of time as a director. He was a fan. I had met him in the early 90’s at conventions and he was so generous with his time and help he was one of the few who you could easily and comfortably go with from fan to friend having no weirdness attached. He did nothing but give and support his whole life. I miss him every single day. He sent me flowers with every new radio job I started. He would meet me at the airport with flowers and a smile. He did this for many people not just me. He was the first to post things on my message boards, almost all of which were congratulatory posts about my films jobs or life related stuff. He was my dear friend and I will miss him. I am proud to say he was my fan, filmmaker and friend. He was a class act and there will never be another like him.”

Thank you Debbie for giving Joe the justice I couldn’t. God bless you Joe.

More stuff to check out about films 'Red Seven' and 'The Tin God' and others!

Posted by Tim on May 26, 2007

RED SEVEN and Shooters, Get the Picture have been selected to play at the Planet Ant Film Festival.

http://www.planetant.com/festival/index.htm

Also noted below is a PDF of the scheduled play times for RED SEVEN, Nice Guy Blues and The Tin God at the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts.

http://www.festivalofthearts.org/press_release_files/Festival07_film_schedule.pdf

So that makes two for two for RED SEVEN. One for Nice Guy Blues. The first for Shooters and about f’ing time for The Tin God. I’m pretty sure I won’t drop these sorts of “en masse” email every single time a film plays somewhere in the world but since it’s first festivals (meaning they’re playing at places where we didn’t pay for a place to screen or it was made for a certain gig) for these films I thought it was sort of special and you all have worked so very hard to get to this point. So be proud! You’ve earned it! Much love and respect to you all.

A live show for Monster Madhouse

Posted by Tim on May 26, 2007

We are taping Dick Dyszel’s (COUNT GORE DE VOL - CAPTAIN 20) hypnosis act at Channel 12 at 8pm, June 8TH (Friday Night)
This will be done “live to tape,” but not broadcast live. A finished
product will air on Channel 12 later in the summer. The normal MONSTER MADHOUSE “LIVE”
crew will be there; Greg Gutierrez is directing. We expect it to be up to an
hour long.

We need between 20-30 people to be an audience - included in that we
need around 8-10 people willing to be hypnotized.

while the content will be “PG” rated, we do not want little children
there. We want a diverse audience - older teenagers to the elderly;
men and women.

At a later date this summer we will record a similar special with
Count Gore doing the mentalist routine before a studio audience.

Bruno Mattei is dead

Posted by Tim on May 21, 2007

One of the all time great exploitation cinema icons, Bruno Mattei, just passed away at the age of 75. If you weren’t a fan, shame on you. Mattei made over 50 insane films, returning to form in recent years with several terrifically goofy comeback features.

Thanks to Art E. of Ultra Violent Magazine (www.uvmagazine.com)

He gave us really cool features like “Hell of the Living Dead” and “Rats”!

We have another reason for you to stop by our site…OUR NEW MOVIE REVIEWS and our archive that is stacked with 200 genre reviews.

This week we review the Bloodtype Online classic by IFC Films “Alone with Her”. It’s a superb stalker film starring Colin Hanks and its all shot from surveillance cameras the villian sets up in a girls home and it’s also shot from the stalkers perspective when he’s following his victim!

Ed Demko shows his admiration and disgust for Fred Vogel’s AU films “Penance” and “Mordum”. He goes as far to mention one of these films of being “the best exploitation film of this millenium”.

Ed also reviews his first Masters of Horror episode by Rob Schmidt titled “Right to Die”. Pretty cool episode that features a female star with a huge rack and Corbin Bernsen!

We also review “Ghoul School”, “Larva”, the low budget zombie film “Awaken the Dead”, Starz Home Entertainment’s “Survival Quest”, “Terror Tain” , Tartan’s latest ghost feature “Arang”, the magnetic and original tale about an innocent couple being terrorized in suburbia called “Neighborhood Watch” by a great director named Graeme Whifler and the worst Zodiac Killer film ever with “Curse of the Zodiac” by the biggest hack on earth Uli Lommell!

Our news update includes news on Rodriguezes next projects “Sin City 2″ and “Machete”, an upcoming Richard Speck serial killer film, Argento’s Mother of Tears update and much more.

THE ZOMBIE SHOW!

No corpse is left unturned this week on the show, as we discuss the best and worst zombie films with our loyal “deadline” callers. CK and Uncle Bill cover everything from “Return of the Living Dead II” to “Deadlands: The Rising” with all the puss, guts and eviscerated soldiers in between. We also slap open the DVD crypt to uncover the rotten remains of such festering discs as Melissa Bacelar’s cannibal hooker gem “Eat Your Heart Out”, director Carl Bessai’s sappy, enviro-zombie treat “Severed: Forest of the Dead”, Tartan Asia Extreme’s latest spiritual vengeance piece “Arang”, and Billy Zane’s star-vehicle run amok entitled “The Mad”. Feel special yet? Well, hold onto your limbs- all of this plus a new magazine review portion of the show featuring Rue Morgue’s latest issue, details on this month’s final show, and an announcement about our all new summer theme. Here lies the greatest horror show of them all…only on Deadpit.com.

Accept NO imitations…….we ARE the innovators of Horror Talk Radio!!
