'Grindhouse' opens to low totals… How?

Posted by Tim on April 9, 2007

Grindhouse:

Friday, I was seriously pumped up because I personally loved the film (check out Gross Movie Reviews #84) . But I thought about it today after I heard how much money it made over the three day weekend. $11.4 million, not bad but I thought it would make more, this should of been a film buff’s ‘wet dream’? Is the public and horror movie fans that jaded that they rather support a remake of Japan’s “The Eye” later this year than this double feature which celebrates a movie age that is lost on recent generations? Was it too over - the - top for people? Are people just that fucking dumb anymore they don’t know what is a good thing at the movies such as a double feature? Is it just me? This weekend’s movie totals raised more questions than answers for me more than any other time. For the first time in history I agree with ‘Dimension Films’ in that maybe it will take some time for the film to find its audience. But then again I am agreeing with possibly the anti-christ who killed “Hellraiser” and “Halloween” for me! I hope I’m not alone in thinking these things because this might not mean much now but possibly down the road it could if people decide they rather see remakes or PG-13 crap? Who knows, maybe I have no clue and I’m fucking crazy… If so then I’m glad I’m the craziest mother fucker around!

The Eerie Horror Film Festival is currently seeking screenplay submissions for their 2007 competition!

If you have a horror, science fiction or suspense themed screenplay, we want to read it!

Since 2004, The Eerie Horror Film Festival has screened over 150 films and has featured appearances by legendary horror icons Tony Todd (Candyman), PJ Soles (Halloween), Gunnar Hansen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre ‘74), Lloyd Kaufman (Troma), Eugene Clark (Land of the Dead), Joe Pilato (Day of the Dead), Lynn Lowry (The Crazies), Tom Atkins (Halloween III), Charles Cyphers (Halloween), Nancy Loomis (Halloween), Alex Vincent (Child’s Play), Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick (The Omen ‘06), Brian Andrews (Halloween), Mark Borchardt (American Movie), John Hancock (Let’s Scare Jessica to Death), Dorothy Tristan (screenwriter), Mark Steensland (The Gospel According to Philip K. Dick), Sean David Morton (Joe Killionaire), Greg Lamberson (Slime City), Debbie Rochon (Hellblock 13), Michael Stanley (Attack of the Beast Creatures) and many, many more!

In 2005, The Eerie Horror Film Festival added a screenplay competition to their annual event and have been exploring new and exciting ways to provide screenwriters with the exposure and opportunities they deserve ever since.

Each year the Festival strives to provide our submitting screenwriters with that vital, often missing link between authors and industry professionals.

This season we’re proud to announce that our winners and runner-ups will be given this rarest of opportunities!

Hollywood literary manager/producer, Colin O’Reilly (co-producer of the mega-hit, “Blades of Glory”) has confirmed that he will be taking a look at some of the judge’s favorites this season and actor Ken Foree (”Dawn of the Dead”,” The Devil’s Rejects”) will be personally reviewing our top three winning screenplays on behalf of E & B Holdings!

Who knows? This might just be the lucky break you’ve been waiting for!!!

Prizes and awards will be presented to the top winners of the Best Feature Length, Best Short and Best Student categories and will be recognized on all of our websites and at our Awards Ceremony during the Festival!

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive two All Access Passes to The 2007 Eerie Horror Film Festival in October!

So, what are you waiting for? Get your screenplay into us today!
