Well apparently the remake of “Black Christmas” failed horribly to make an impact! Is yet again another sign Hollywood should take from the movie going public that it should stop remaking horror films? You be the judged as the film has been out a little over two weeks and it has made close to $13 million, just over its budget and theaters have been kicking the film to the curb because of its lack of success!
Would this be the first failure or of the year or just another from last year?

The Eerie Horror Film Festival has announced that actor, director and special effects legend Tom Savini will be appearing as a special guest at their annual event in October of 2007.
Savini, best known for his astonishingly realistic make-up effects in such horror classics as “Dawn of the Dead” (1978), “Friday the 13th” (1980) and “Maniac” (1980), has been active in the film industry since the early 1970’s when he returned home from a tour as a combat photographer in Viet Nam.
In 1977, Savini joined forces with director George A. Romero for the movie “Martin” and formed a long lasting relationship that has produced several classics of the horror genre including “Dawn of the Dead” (1978), “Day of the Dead” (1985), “Creepshow”(1982), “Monkey Shines”(1988) and most recently, “Land of the Dead” (2005).
In addition to providing the make-up effects, Savini has also appeared as an actor in several of the Romero films as well as in memorable roles in the 2004 remake of “Dawn of the Dead” and the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez films “From Dusk Till Dawn” (1996) and in their soon to be released film “Grindhouse” (2007).
Savini has also directed films and television programs including a feature length remake of Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” in 1990 and episodes of the “Tales from the Darkside” TV series in the 1980’s. He is currently directing a new project called “The Forest”. He also runs a popular make-up/special effects school in Monessen, Pennsylvania and has his own effects company, Tom Savini, Ltd.
Savini will be joining fellow Romero alumni Ken Foree and Leonard Lies, actors featured in the original “Dawn of the Dead”, at the 4th Annual Eerie Horror Film Festival which takes place October 10 - 14, 2007 at the Erie Playhouse in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Gross Movie Reviews #77
By Tim Gross
Yes horror movie fans, I’m just shilling out the crap recently… Now, time for more crap!
X-MEN 3: The Last Stand (DVD) – Yeah I might have reviewed it already when it came out to theaters but this being written just to remind you that one the coolest movies ever made is now on DVD. No, it’s not a ten disc special edition but it does have three alternative endings and a few deleted scenes that are more than worth checking out if you are any kind of X-men movie fan. So get your fat ass up and go buy the DVD! I give the DVD 4 stars.
From Beyond: The Director’s Cut (DVD-R) – Possibly some of Yunza’s and Stuart Gordon’s best work and Charles Band was on as a producer also. Which raises the question before I say about this cool ass horror flick is why or how this was left out of the recent “Stuart Gordon Box Set†from Full Moon Pictures? But anyhow horror fans this gooey horror feature is based on a ‘Lovecraft’ story and is about a mad scientist is heavily looking into going beyond pain and pleasure through science with his assistant played by Jeffery Combs! The invention works and kills the mad scientist and leaves Jeffery combs character in a crazy rage in that “the machine must be destroyedâ€! But a very sexy doctor played by Barbara Crampton decides it would good for Jeffery Combs character to go back to the house and show her he is not crazy. They are escorted by Ken Foree who plays a police officer, but once the machine is on here is no way stopping it as it is addictive like drugs. There is tons goo, blood, gore but the bonus is seeing Barbara Crampton in a S & M outfit! I give the movie 4 stars.
Future Kill (DVD) – A special edition DVD of this little unknown cult sci-fi flick from Texas was just released recently. The movie isn’t much to watch and kind of lame at times as it borrows from Toxic Avenger, The Warriors, among many others, but anyhow it stars Ed Neal (aka hitchhiker from TCM) as a disfigured cyborg who believes violence is the new way of the world and his companion let’s say played by Marilyn Burns (the survivor from TCM) who is trying to help lost frat boys get out of town before Ed’s character kills them. Nothing redeeming about the film except once you see it, you’ll understand why you passed it up all those years on the rental shelves especially during the 80’s? I give the DVD 1 star.
The Last Supper (DVD) – A new release coming from MTI Video that blew me away. It is a Japanese film about a man who is a world famous plastic surgeon but has a dark secret and he takes us through his life. The film follows him before he became a cannibal and became a better human being overall! He was a man who could barely get through medical school right before he decided he wanted to try a lady’s piece of fat since; he has always felt that regular food never filled him. He eats her fat and goes from there and becomes a better doctor, he does hair better, he looks better, so with that he begins to eat whole woman’s bodies and goes into detail how this started and how he prepares them. This film is not for the weak of heart and screams for the Hannibal fans to find it as it goes that extra step those films didn’t! The film is well made and has a some what shocking ending to the film. I give this DVD 4 stars.
The Woodchipper Massacre (DVD) – Recently I just reviewed the VHS copy again and found out somebody was releasing this unknown classic on DVD, so it was time again to review the world’s greatest bad horror film! Why? It is so bad it is great! It is the most bloodless ‘massacre’ film ever made! And we owe it all to Jon McBride. The film is about a father going out of town leaving his teenager son and two other kids in the hands of their aunt for a weekend. Well of course, the aunt is a tight ass and making the kids do house work, until when the one kid gets the ‘Rambo’ knife in the mail and his sister accidentally kills the aunt. What should they do, eventually they figure out they should throw her through a woodchipper they have out in the yard which has “one drop of bloodâ€! Her son comes looking for her and the same fate is for him also! The film is horribly great and becomes funnier with each watch as I have seen it now 6 times in the past two years or so! But the great unknown classic isn’t all on this DVD, you also get commentary from McBride himself and an interview from a bad movie host who gets all the info you want to hear from McBride who took the filming very serious but understands what the film actually is and is pretty cool about it. Just to find a guy that made a bad unknown film alone was great in its own right and the interview and commentary alone is well worth double the price of this DVD! It is a movie for the whole family to watch! You know you are interested in the film I never stop talking about so go get your copy now at www.campmotionpictures.com as I give this DVD 4 stars!
Cannibal Campout (DVD) – Actually, Jon McBride’s first film before “Woodchipper Massacre†is a little known gory cult film from the 80’s known among hardcore horror fans. The film is a complete ‘blood bath’ as the title says it all as the movie is about some ugly ass college kids going on vacation and getting attacked by some redneck cannibals that will stop at nothing to get their meal! Very entertaining but that isn’t all, the DVD has lots extras as the new “Woodchipper Massacre†DVD did also! Commentary, photos, interview with Jon McBride, it fucking rocks and has me having a new found respect for not only a bad movie but for McBride himself! This is a must own so go to www.campmotionpictures.com and get your copy today has I say it gets 4 stars!
Rollerball (DVD) – Not the remake with Chris Penn and LL Cool J dumb ass! The 1975 film starring James Caan as a Rollerball star who some think has become bigger than politics itself and there is people in power would do anything for him to retire or die! If anything this was a powerful film in my opinion and still is as it is set far into future where the only sport that is played anymore is “Rollerballâ€, a sport which is the combo of roller derby and lots of violence. The sport is what connects everybody and everything in the world now and is run by the leaders of the world which are corporations. The film is outdated but still is something to learn from as some people have thrown out that the NFL is doing that now, but maybe I’m wrong? Anyway go rent a really cool violent movie that I give 3 stars too.
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest (DVD) – Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow looking for “Davy Jones’s treasure chestâ€, but so are many others. All the main characters from the first film are back along with some surprises along the way. Some cool monster effects and lots of action highlight this pretty cool Hollywood sequel that I give this loaded 2-disc DVD 3 ½ stars.
