Well, it has been a while, hasn’t it? Been a long couple of weeks, during which I took Abattoir as far as I could take it. The sound tracks are now in the hands of Rich Conant, one of the stars of Absence of Light and a genuine sound designer. Barring any disasters on his end, this one WILL be done by the end of the month. For some reason, Abattoir didn’t want to be finished. We spent most of the summer with “only three more days to go”. Now, though, it’s finally in its death throes. People seem to enjoy it too and it’s getting a lot of attention. A lot of distributors have asked to see it. Too soon to start counting chickens but it has a lot going for it, so we’re optimistic. 2007 is shaping up to be a good year for Happy Cloud Pictures, it would seem.
Speaking of such things, the official DVD for Blood Bath: Blood Wrestling Vol. 1, chronicling the no-holds-barred, unscripted blood wrestling matches held at Genghis Con, is also almost donWe have two small pieces to shoot for it—a little horror-cheese coda for the ending and a Necro-Phil introduction—and it will be complete. Motion menus, two featurettes (both courtesy of Shawn Jones—including one inside the shower after the match!) and an extensive photo gallery of pics by Mike Haushalter, Scott Simmons, Digger Films and Ramsteer Films. Gonna be very cool, I think. We previewed it at this past weekend’s Haunted Hotel Convention in Ohio and got a lot of attention for it. It’ll be ready for mass consumption in January (just in time for the official release of Chainsaw Sally!), but if you’d like to pre-order it, email me at LAN_EMAIL_SUBS and I’ll send information. Official word for the pre-order will go up in the next few weeks. Look for a full-page ad in December’s issue of Sirens of Cinema.
Speaking of such things, looks like sales for Sirens are up and we’ll be around for another year. Our first anniversary issue with the special Mike Lilly gatefold cover was a huge success. Not to sound pessimistic, but I have to admit that I’m shocked that people are responding to it—including people not in the horror community. It seems our “anti-Maxim” stance is really resonating with readers. So over the next few issues, look for interviews with Jennifer Lim (Hostel), Jewel Shepard (Return of the Living Dead), Jud Tylor (That ’70s Show), set diaries from Brinke Stevens, Debbie Rochon and Amy Lynn Best, covers by Justice Howard, Mike Okomoto and Scott Grimando—and a whole lot more! Let’s make it to anniversary #2!
Okay, while we’re still on the subject of various HCP things, we’re starting production on a new short for Countess Bathoria’s Graveyard Tales. This one is called Retreat and will appear on the upcoming DVD alongside JimmyO Burril’s ‘Smores and Melantha Blackthorne’s Inbred and Undead, among many others. It’s going to be a cool, interrelated zombie anthology and we’re looking forward to another marathon shooting day, ala High Stakes.
High Stakes, by the way, is still included on Brinke’s Tales of Horror, which will be available soon. There was a problem with the initial replication process, but HCP is chipping in to help out and get this on the market a.s.a.p.
As far as some of our other projects go, we’ll be announcing our next feature soon. And miracle of miracles, we’re actually doing a horror movie this time around! Something that won’t be a hybrid like The Resurrection Game (horror/mystery) or Severe Injuries (horror/comedy). Don’t want to talk too much about it here, but it’s a straightforward horror film and is going to be, we promise, extremely gory. We’re not about to make the mistake some of our fellows have made by calling it “the most extreme vision of horror ever”, or whatever meaningless hype others have appended to their movies. It’s going to be gory—especially for us—and it’s going to be delightfully mean and grotesque. And if all goes well, it will take Happy Cloud Pictures to the next level. What does that mean? I’m not entirely sure. Maybe that we’ll be bigger than Jesus…
Now, I mentioned Severe Injuries a few sentences ago… our little slasher parody, we’ve been informed, is officially out of print! There are just a few copies to go around and they’re only available through us. It’s scheduled to be released as part of a double-feature to stores in January, but it’ll be the movie only, bereft of the extras you can find on the full version (like Were-Grrl and our blooper reel). Because of its status as “O.O.P.”, we’ll likely be raising the price on it after Christmas, so if you have some horror fans on your gift list, stop by Happy Cloud Pictures.net and place your order today!
Now, after the first of the year, we’ll be officially announcing big news about our flagship title, The Resurrection Game. We have some really cool things in the making for this one—the unseen little movie with the oddly enormous cult following. Again, can’t quite go into details here until the foundation is dry, but here’s a hint: this news has been ten years in the making. And we’d like to personally thank all of our loyal supporters who have kept the interest in The Resurrection Game alive all this time!
* If you haven’t heard about it yet by some chance here it is, apparently its been heavily noted over the past few months that the remake of the film “Phantasm” fell through! But that stop Don the creator of the “Phantasm” series from onto something else as its being reported that he is in or going into production on the sequel to “Bubba Ho-tep” and we hopeful will see it late summer or fall 2007!
* Reports out of the Horror Film Fest last weekend is that Mike Mendez has did it again with his horror film “Gravedancers”? Apparently the movie was above and beyond better than some of the others that were shown!
* Look for a huge annoucement about Bastards of Horror in the next two weeks as this will be yet another step for Bastards of Horror trying to be taken seriously by the horror movie community!
* Hope everybody had a great Turkey Day even though two out of the three NFL games completely sucked donkey ass!
