Gross Movie Reviews #67
By Tim Gross

All I can say people is, the reviews are going to keep coming and hopefully somebody is going to have acknowledge them at some point! But until then it is just me trying to take over the horror movie world one movie review at a time… Now for more crazy shit…

Conan The Destroyer (DVD) – A sequel to possibly one of the best ever fantasy/adventure movies of our time that flopped and flopped badly! The sequel comes 2 ½ years later and to many fans being excited about the film until they seen it. It was bad; it was very bad, so bad to this day people reference it like a bad Trivia Pursuit question! But I’m here to tell you its ok to like this bad film, 20 years later seems to add to the “what the fuck” category of thinking by the filmmakers. How could you not want to revisit a film that makes a joke of the Conan character, stars Grace Jones as an Amazon warrior, and Wilt Chamberlain (who we know was banging all the bitches on the set)? The film is so bad now that you have to like it; it is like “Metalstorm” bad but without Richard Moll! I give it 3 stars, because I like bad films…

Santo & Blue Demon vs. Dracula & Wolfman (DVD) – I love the Santo movies… For those who do not know who “Santo” is, he was a Mexican wrestler who was equal to US’s Hulk Hogan. He would wrestle in Mexico City during the weekends and film movies such as this film during the week. Santo was an icon to the Spanish speaking community and has gained cult status to film lovers here in America! But the title says it all except the film is in Spanish which didn’t hold me back from watching this throw back film that reminds you of Godzilla vs. King Kong type of monster films but with wrestling moves. This is the type of film that reminds you how much fun it was to be a kid when you found something like this? I give the film 3 ½ stars!

The Green Slime (DVD) – Thanks to Crypt Flicks who gave us back “the rug monster” they bring back this bad classic of alien life that resembles ‘green slime’ that is transported from a meteor to a space station and grows with electricity! It’s cheesy, it’s violent, it’s 60’s sci-fi at its peak… I give the film 4 stars.

Thou Shalt Not Kill… Except (VHS) – Yes, I know there is DVD copy available, but I was lazy so go fuck a donkey! But anyhow not to long after the success of ‘The Evil Dead’ film, the clan of Sam Raimi, Scott Spiegel, Josh Becker, and Bruce Campbell got together to put this flick out. It stars Sam as a cult leader of some kind who is pretty much holding people hostage at a camping site until a solider back from the Vietnam War stumbles upon it along with his friends after his girlfriend’s father was killed and his girl was kidnapped! Boring at times, but worth the pay off at the end to just see Sam Raimi play a sadistic cult leader. I give it 2 ½ stars.

Happy Hell Night (DVD) – A forgotten slasher film from 1989 brought back by Anchor Bay that pretty much borrows from every 80’s slasher ever made. But don’t let that stop you as this film is about a priest brought back from the dead by accident. It was a school prank years ago that comes back to haunt students again when he is released from an asylum! A surprising appearance from the ‘dad in, A Christmas Story’ as the guy who released him years ago! It’s bad but full of nudity and gore to keep you watching this big piece of slasher shit! I give it 2 stars.

Clonus (DVD) – A movie made over 25 years ago but pretty much plays out like an X-Files episode and even brings up debates that are ongoing now in our own government! The movie is about clones who begin to question what is real and what is not as scientists who made them observe and decides when its time to put them to sleep or (go to America) for their real twin they were cloned from needs their organs or such to live. It is an awesome government experiment gone wrong flick that stars Dick Sergeant as a scientist who heads the “Clonus” project! Well worth the rent, I give it 3 ½ stars.

Strangeland (DVD) – Dee Snider writes, directs, and stars in a movie about extreme torture by piercing! Dee Snider plays a man who is kidnapping young teens on the internet and showing him his way of life and is caught when he kidnaps a detective’s daughter. Of course the justice system is retarded and Dee’s character is out again after four years to finish what he started. The movie also has a special appearance by Robert Englund! I give this pretty bloodless but very different movie 3 ½ stars.

The Secret Life of Sarah Sheldon (DVD) – An independent horror/erotic/thriller, I guess you can call it, without nudity… It’s different to say the least. The film written, produced, directed, and stars in it Annette Ashlie is very professional and well put together for an independent film. It is a sick, twisted, scientific tale of a female version of Herbert West who is trying to cure the world of its overpopulation problem. Her exotic experiments on herself, another female, and her male friend Alex gets weirder and wilder as the film goes on and documents her either going insane or finding the knowledge her experiment lacked depending at which way you watch the film. At times the film has dry humor but the film is pretty much filmed in a serious tone. The film runs in at a whopping 122 minutes which is unheard of unless uncut, but there are deleted scenes… I honestly can say this was an awesome independent horror flick that has only one flaw? That flaw was length; usually I bitch the independent horror films are to short or what not but this movie just seems like it would run flawlessly with a cut here or a few frames taken out here as some scenes just seem to over stay their welcome on screen! But don’t let that scare you away from this film as this independent film make you ask, “How long before Annette is under contract by a big time studio?” But until then it gives hope to intelligent independent filmmaking and a pleasure to watch what she does next! I give the film 3 ½ stars! Oh did I mention it has a “MONSTER PENIS”? Would I lie about something like that? Plus the movie has a second DVD that is just loaded with extras that a must see. S.L.O.S.S. won BEST ORIGINAL FILM at the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville, Kentucky! We are honored to be awarded this Maverick Award! www.frightnightfilmfest.com

A recap of some of the reactions from the festival .

Theres a Penis Monster popping out of a guys pants in there! as a girl rushed out of the screening room.

The penis monster t-shirts were a HOT item at the festival and EVERYONE wanted a t-shirt with this adorable creature on it! By Sunday night, peeps were approaching us and asked us how it felt to be the most talked about film at the festival! It felt pretty damn good:)

Horror Cult Legend Gunnar Hansen attended the 2nd half of the films screening and later requested a DVD to watch the entire film…:) I love my Gunnar.

My brother described the film as a cross between Melrose Place and American Psycho.

Due to audience demand, the festival booked us for a second screening and 1 guy that attended the 1st screening returned for the 2nd screening and brought a group of friends. They all approached us after the screening and complimented us on the film.

Stay tuned we are hitting da Burgh in a few weeks. www.genghisconpa.com

Announcing the Debut of Indie Horror Movie The Forever Dead

Posted by Charlie on September 6, 2006

The Forever Dead is and independently made horror movie shot entirely in Sanford, NC and surrounding areas. It will have its theatrical premier next month in North Carolina at the Spring Lane Cinemas in Sanford, North Carolina. All press are invited to attend free of charge with prior notice.
Contact Christine Parker for details. The Forever Dead will also make its Raleigh debut on October 26th at 9:30pm at the Colony Theatre.
The Forever Dead is currently courting several festivals and distributors nationwide including The Eerie Horror Fest and the New York Horror Festival.

Starring Local Actors – Bill Mulligan, Libby Lynn, Jessie Walley, Ryan Williams, Brian Chippewa, Jacqueline Martini, Edward Warner, Andy Miller, Liesl Owle, Wayne Bates, Robin Duff, Patrick Loree, Chris Graham, Shonna Okada, and Darrell Parker

The Forever Dead is the prequel to last year’s movie Second Death – Second Death was the short movie that started it all. Produced and Directed by Joe Wilson, Christine was also the Executive Producer and Writer. It was her company The Adrenalin Group Productions’ first movie. The Forever Dead centers around the same six characters in Second Death but tells the tale of what happened to them the day before and explains
how a nasty little rabbit started the epidemic that brought them all together. “We won’t call them zombies, but they are definitely back-from-the-dead indestructible creatures that have a craving for human flesh. And they’re multiplying faster than rabbits. One catch though, you can’t kill them by shooting them in the head, these guys don’t die…ever, thus they’re Forever Dead.” Christine said.

Special Effects on No Budget –Thanks to the brilliant effects by Bill Mulligan (who also did the effects for Second Death) and newcomer Mike Jones the creatures in this movie are incredibly creepy and the gore is totally over the top for a low budget movie. “I’ve seen these guys make amazingly realistic stuff out of dryer sheets, coffee grounds and jello!” Christine said. “Who says you need a lot of money to create great effects. I have all this stuff in my kitchen cupboards!”

With a Budget of Less than $10,000 – One girl and two guys set out to do the impossible. Make a really great horror movie in less than a year. With little to no money. They started their production in September of 2005
right after Labor Day. The Forever Dead was funded mainly by Executive Producer (etc.) Christine Parker who in addition to buying all the equipment out of her own pocket also sold credits on E-bay to finance the movie. “We raised over $1,000 for our movie thanks to our “Proxie Zombies”, she said. “We could never have finished this movie without them!” Each and every person who purchased a credit through E-bay will be listed in the closing credits as “Proxie Zombies.” There are about 120 of them who made donations ranging from $1 to $100. The $100 donators received co-producer credits at the beginning of the movie.
