Gross Movie Reviews #58

GROSS MOVIE REVIEWS #58
BY TIM GROSS

Motorhome Massacre (DVD) – I was given this screener of this movie just because it had ‘massacre’ in the title and it was horrible, plus I was told it was my kind of movie! Well, it was but the movie is just down right horrible! Not much blood and made the Jolly Roger seem like a welcome surprise as this movie just stunk up my DVD player! But there was one memorable scene where a beautiful redhead with fake melons gets wrapped up inside a tent and then used as “piñata! I give it ½ star just for the ‘piñata’ scene.

Robocop (DVD) – Late 1987, we were introduced to Alex Murphy the cyborg cop who fights crime in future Detroit. It was a movie that did not pull punches with the violence and had the MPAA up in arms everytime it went to the ratings board. Recently a special edition DVD came out with not only restoring edited scenes but a fully restored quality that even enhances the movie that came out in theaters over 18 years ago. It was one movie that got the cyborg concept right! Lots of blood, gore, and a great one-liner of “I’d buy that for a dollar highlight this perfect movie of a cyborg cop trying to help a city with bleak future! I give it 4 stars!

Robocop 2 (DVD) – Peter Weller comes back to be the cyborg again only this time Hollywood went with less gore and more of a hokey storyline that consists of trying to make ‘Robocop’ more gentle while he fights off a drug dealer who is turned into a cyborg himself when he is killed! I give it 2 stars as does not do any justice to the original.

Godzilla vs. Hedora (DVD) – Godzilla fights the ‘Smog Monster’ in 1971 as Tokyo is riddled with pollution as possibly one of the most entertaining Godzilla films to date! I give it 3 ½ stars.

The Crow : City of Angels (DVD) – Brandon Lee died in the first movie and it made $80 million, let’s make a sequel that sucks and does not resemble anything like a good movie for the exception of having the famous rock singer ‘Iggy Pop’ as a villain. I give it 1 star and good forbid Hollywood tries to make another soon as they are up to 4 and have a TV series out of it somehow.

Foreigner 2: Black Dawn (DVD) – Steven Segal breaks out a known criminal and help him get designs to a secret small neutron bomb in order to bring him and his criminally insane brother in another classic Segal kicks ass movie. I give it 3 stars.

Sweet Insanity (DVD) – Soon to be released by MTI is this little 77 minute thriller about a girl who befriends the new Goth girl at school and people begin dying around her in “Slumber Party Massacre like fashion with a twist ending that ties up the low budget nicely. I give it 2 ½ stars.

The Drop (DVD) – A movie to be released next month by MTI is a feature that is a cross between Pulp Fiction and Repo Man but nowhere near as good as those two features as this movie could have been maybe 10 or 15 minutes long and would have been more effective. I give it ½ star.

Funnyman (DVD) – Christopher Lee stars as a man who loses his castle to a music exec who wants his family to live in it until they found out the castle has its secrets. The secret of a wise-cracking joker who cracks jokes as he finds many different ways of killing you. The movie came out of England in 1994 to the US to subpar response but is like a step up from Leprechaun and Freddy with its British humor and possibly has one of the five coolest deaths ever as the main character ‘Funnyman’ climbs in and through one of his victims in order to kill her! Also look for the girl who plays ‘Velma’ and plays the “Scooby-Doo character to a ‘T’! I give the movie 3 ½ stars as it finally gets its due on a special edition DVD that has also day-to-day diary of the movie shoot inside with the DVD!

Raptor (DVD) – Eric Roberts and Angie Everhart star in another sequel to the Carnosaur series as they try to stop a genetic mutant dinosaur attack their little town and eat everybody! I give it 2 stars.

Remember folks if you’re renting from Blockbuster you’re not renting from the best! Support your local independent video store! It will keep horror alive………

HORROR COMIC BOOK REVIEWS
by Tim Gross

I bought a few horror comic books from Pittsburgh’s Comicon recently in hopes of finding that new horror comic book that is worth checking out for all fans whether you are a fan of horror comics or not but at least a fan of the horror genre. Every year I try to pick up as much as I can or think is worth the trouble of paying for and reading. This year was no different as I didn’t find a whole a lot but one that caught my eye. But whether they are good or bad I promised these guys we would at least plug their website so you can form your own opinion about the comic books.

Crap you might want to know?

* It has been announced ‘Saw 3′ is in production and schduled for a release into theaters October 27, 2006.

* People are claiming that Steve Niles’s “30 Days of Night” has gone into pre-production which means they were just trying to stir up some press about it as the film has not even been given a director last heard.

* Critters box set in the works finally?! Somebody from New LIne Cinema has leaked out information they have something in the works for end of this year. We will see if this happens as all four are available on DVD now.

* Those of you wondering about FullMoonDirect.com’s new shipping service and website. I ordered the “Trancers” box set last Monday and got it today. 7 days ain’t bad compared to a few months ago it took 5 weeks for my statue from them!

Time Out London has the interview. They talk about Land, the Dawn attrocity, er, I mean remake, and Shaun.

We've got pictures.

The Bastards of Horror picture gallery is now online. I couldn’t think of a better way to start it off than with pictures of a bloody, beaten Tim. These are actually from the set of Happy Cloud Pictures’ Abattoir and not a marriage counseling session as was first thought. Thanks to Mike Haushalter from Secret Scroll Digest, home of the Sonny Chiba head punch, for providing them!

The link for the gallery is on the side menu.
