The horror movie ‘Silent Hill’ is being reported of making over $20 million this past weekend beating out Ice Age 2 and Scary Movie 4 for the #1 spot! Apparently I predicted right that it would make more than $15 million!

Gross Movie Reviews #57
By Tim Gross
Masters of Horror: Cigarette Burns (DVD) – John Carpenter directs an episode of the Masters of Horror series that possibly was the best episode of the 13 episodes. Carpenter with no restraints except make it 60 minutes long goes for the “jugular in this episode. It’s about a famous man (Udo Kier) who is a filmmaker and a rare movie collector. He hires a man who has the knack to find hard to find independent films. But this isn’t just any ordinary film, it’s a film that only played once at a small film festival and it caused chaos among the people who viewed it that night in the theater. The film was banned because the film made people go insane killing and injuring others. The episode is gory, plot driven and well filmed as much of Carpenter’s masterpieces are. I give it 4 stars as the extras were just fantastic.
Masters of Horrors: Dreams of the Witchhouse (DVD) – Stuart Gordon episode is of course a “H.P. Lovecraft story, did you expect anything else? Only problem with his work is it either is great or your very disappointed, no inbetween. But anyhow, a man moves into a large house that has a room for rent to do his thesis for school and almost immediately begins to strange things such as a rat with a human face and his room turning into a gateway to another dimension! Sounds good on paper, but on the big screen it sucked donkey shit! I give it 1 star. The extras are the only thing worth watching on this disc.
Mercury Rising (DVD) – A thriller starring Bruce Willis who finds himself, protecting a kid with autism because the government is out to kill the boy because he solved a puzzle. Alec Baldwin plays the villain and the story based around the boy with autism is great. I have a son with autism and it was awesome to see Hollywood get at least one thing right when made an autistic child the main plotline! Another great thriller/action movie starring Bruce Willis, I give it 3 stars.
How to Make a Monster (DVD) – By just reading the title it would sound like a cool movie to check out but instead it is just one big pile of steamy donkey shit as computer programmers make a monster in a computer and guess what it gets out and kills everyone! I give it 0 stars.
The Forsaken (DVD) – To keep it short the movie is WB network’s answer to any good vampire movie that a 14 year old couldn’t comprehend! I give it 0 stars.
Ultimate Avengers The Movie (DVD) – Marvel got smart and put together a cartoon movie with some of the most famous superheroes known as the “Avengers! Awesome action, people die, and the “HULK kicks ass! This has to be the first cartoon with the “HULK where it actually shows what the “HULK is all about! Captain America is the All-American solider, Iron Man is a drunk, Thor gets his ass kick, and HULK is baddest superhero on earth, what more does a comic book geek need to watch this movie. I give it 4 stars.
High Stakes (rough cut DVD) – Mike Watt’s latest project that is a 13 minute short film for a DVD that the lovely and talented ‘Scream Queen’ Brinke Stevens is putting together which will filled to the gills of short films. The short is about a poker game becomes more than just a poker game when a strange woman appears at the table to play and gets everyone at the table to tell their darkest secret. Not the best Mike Watt project with the sound problems that are in the process of being corrected which Mike has expressed his concern about. But Mike Watt knows there are always better projects in the future to film! I give it 1 ½ stars.
Mammoth (Sci-fi channel/DVD) – Starring Tom Skerritt (ALIEN), the Vince guy who was the ‘Invisible Man’ on the TV show on Sci-fi channel a few years ago, and the cute blonde chic from the TV series ‘LOST’! Sci-fi channel finally has gotten it right? They knew the CG Mammoth was going to look bad so they decided not to take the movie to seriously and make it like a sci-fi/comedy and have come up with an awesome movie about a killer prehistoric elephant! I give it 3 stars.
2001 Maniacs (DVD) – The hype behind this direct-to-video release doesn’t make up for the lackluster effort that Scott Spiegel and Eli Roth as producers gave us! With appearances by Kane Hodder, Johnny Legend, and even Eli Roth himself, the movie lacks where the original was original and fresh. It had Robert Englund; it had lots of tits, and some blood but not enough fresh storyline to make it a worthwhile rent. I give it 2 stars.
The Hazing (DVD) – The movie is Hell Night meets Witchhouse with a fresh take on the same old story of pledges locked in a haunted house. What helps the movie along is the cool actor Brad (voice of Chucky) Dourif playing the evil killer and the beautiful, talented, and possibly the hottest actress in horror films besides Debbie Rochon: Tiffany Shepis! Debbie is #1 and Tiffany in my opinion these days is #1A. I give it 3 stars.
Santa’s Slay (DVD) – What a brilliant killer Santa Claus movie?! I haven’t seen a great Christmas horror movie like this since Silent Night, Deadly Night! Bill Goldberg (ex-WCW/WWE wrestler) plays the killer Santa who kills in the opening ten minutes James Cann, Fran Dresher, and Chris Kattan. The movie revolves around Santa Claus actually being the spawn of Satan and kills little boys and girls instead of giving them presents! And its up to a 18 year old kid and his cute little blonde girlfriend from the TV series ‘LOST’ to get rid of Santa Claus! Lots of blood and politically incorrect humor highlight this great film. I give it 3 ½ stars!
Remember folks if you’re renting from Blockbuster you’re not renting from the best! Support your local independent video store! It will keep horror alive………

Sunday morning my tired ass got out of bed to drive to McKeesport, Pa to go visit on the set with Mike Watt and Amy Lynn Best and check out their progress on their new project, “Abattoir. They filmed scenes of the couple and a friend arriving at the vampire bordello, the business man being killed in bed by two lovely naked women, and fight scenes between some vampires and the community vampire watch group we can call them. I became the boom guy for a couple hours and then moved on to helping Mike of Secret Scroll Digest out on an introduction to his interviews of the actors and actresses. As the filming progressed rather swiftly I was able to speak with a very cute actress named Zoë Hunter from the New York area who is playing one of the roles of a vampire hooker and actor/producer Nic Pesante about the film plus films they both were involved with in the upcoming months. The filming looks to be going smoothly as possible for a low budget vampire movie and Mike Watt expressed his not only hopes but happiness that filming has gone much better during the shoot for the past month than in the past where Mike has had your usual and not so usual issues with low budget production. But with Mike Watt and Amy Lynn Best of Happy Cloud Pictures finding investors into not only this project but future projects they have been able to get better equipment and be able to buy time to become better prepared for what they are filming. It seems with the production of “Abattoir soon coming to an end, this could be the break Mike Watt and Amy Lynn Best have been looking for, for Happy Cloud Pictures.

For the past several years not only myself but several people have said the Pittsburgh Comicon at the Monroeville Expomart seemed lame and getting worse by the minute. But this year unlike the past several seemed to be different as place was packed. In other years I would have my run at whatever table or vendor I would like to go to and bullshit for days on end with the people about anything. This year was different as I had to push my way through crowds of people just to get where I was going. Whether it was to pick up horror comic books off of guys who are trying to get their talents out to people like me or my wife trying to buy “heroclix, there were always a couple people or a crowd to make your way through. Personally, I see this as a good thing as the comic book convention in Monroeville was getting the reputation of charging a lot and not giving you a lot in return. Now, I still feel $17 is still a lot to get into a comic book convention, but at least this year I didn’t feel like I was getting ass raped before I laid foot in the place. Also look forward to my reviews of these new horror comic books I picked up as I also let these guys writing and drawing the comics in on what they are missing: www.bastardsofhorror.com !
