Bastards of Horror visits Kiss Of Death Productions latest Production

Charlie and I arrived at an old building once used as a lawyer’s office now just a building that sits empty for the most part only used for storage in a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa called Mt. Lebanon. It was a cold Saturday morning last Saturday waiting outside of the garage that leads into the basement of the building which is going to be used for today’s shoot by David and Diana Silvio. David the director and Diana the producer explain to us that they are waiting for someone because there is a code to get in the garage and that person has yet to show or call. So we sat outside in the cold conversing about Cinema Wasteland, the upcoming Monster-Mania convention in Cherry Hill, NJ, and among other things wrestling! Finally, 20 minutes pass by and Diana receives a phone call that allows her to get the code and we are in the very large and empty basement that is going to be the set today. It’s what I have learned to be low budget filmmaking at its best. Use whatever locations you can for as cheap as you can. The movie being shot which is under a working title for now is called, “I, the Killer which was started out as a short ten minute film they put together a few years ago starring the beautiful Crystalann Aura which is now starring in the expanded, filled out film the Silvios are filming today. We got to watch David work through the script with his actors and actresses which showed us everybody was on the same page and seem to fly through pages of the script almost flawlessly. One disturbing thing we got to witness was a scene David and Crystalann were setting up where a girl who is full grown into her twenties is sitting in a very devilish painted playroom that has dolls, teddy bears, and other toys surrounding her as she is suppose to be a experiment of a doctor who Crystalann’s character is looking into. From what we got to watch and take pictures of, this Kiss of Death Production looks to be as if not more disturbing than their Troma release last year, “Meat for Satan’s Icebox, which is available everywhere! It was a good time for all as the crew got us into still pictures with the actresses in this devilish playroom which we hope to share with you soon on www.bastardsofhorror.com. The one thing we missed out on was the blood as the make-up man was traveling from another state and yet to make it there after we been there a few hours and had already other plans. But hate to tell you that is the art of low budget filmmaking. But it was not a loss as David and Diana invited us back to cover day of shooting sometime whether its, “I, the Killer or another production of theirs soon as they have plans for three more this year alone! So prepare yourself for some more disturbing movies from Kiss of Death Productions!

Gross Movie Reviews #56

GROSS MOVIE REVIEW #56
BY TIM GROSS

Old School (DVD) – Starring Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Vince Vaughn in one of the funniest movies ever made. By some chance you haven’t seen this flick, it’s about a man (Luke Wilson) who moves into a house that is on campus of the local college after he finds out his wife is into orgies! Of course his two friends Vince and Will talk him into having a party and lots of beer, tits, and naked Will Ferrell later they are told only fraternities are allowed in the house. So they start a fraternity! Extras on the unrated DVD include ‘Old Blue’ singing and Will Ferrell outtakes. I give this DVD 4 stars!

Escape From New York (DVD) – It was hard to believe that I never reviewed this especially with a new special edition out last year. This is one movie that never gets old and only gets better with age. Kurt Russell stars as “Snake possibly the first anti-hero of movies that people loved to watch! John Carpenter made this classic in 1982 which is why the dates in the movie’s future don’t make sense to a new viewer. But anyway, after crime has become too much the government decides to build a wall completely around New York to keep in US’s worst criminals. One problem, the president’s plane has just crash landed inside New York and is being held captive with no way of rescuing him. That’s when the government sends in a war veteran turned criminal inside the walls of the prison with only 23 hours to live! A movie that is in my top 20 movies of all time and possibly Carpenter’s best ever, I give it 4 stars!

Escape From L.A. (DVD) – John Carpenter’s long delayed sequel that does not live up to the hype and possibly would of never lived up to it. This time around a giant earthquake hits L.A. in 1998, sending some of the city and the state into the ocean! So of course the government sends anybody and everybody there now if you break the law! Snake has been on the run ever since New York years ago and is finally caught but not too soon since the president’s daughter has hijacked the Air Force III and has landed inside L.A. to be with her new lover she met over the computer! This time Snake has only 10 hours this time to get in and out of L.A. with a code that controls all the satellites. A sub-par movie compared to the original but Carpenter in my opinion makes up for it with a ‘Snake’ kind of ending. I give the movie only 2 stars as a real fan can tell there was way too much Hollywood in this movie!

SS DOOMTROOPER (Sci-fi Channel/DVD) – The guy who starred as Parker Lewis in a Fox TV show years ago leads a group of troops againist a horrible CG-thing that is the last hope for the Nazis during WWII! Boring and mostly too laughable to watch, I give it 0 stars.

Mindhunters (DVD) - Dimension Films put together a crappy movie about the FBI sends its agents into a field test in order to test their wills and intelligence to be a FBI profiler of serial killers. The movie is very uninteresting and mostly lacks in every phase of making a good serial killer movie. Stick with ‘Suspect Zero’ or ‘Silence of the Lambs’. I give this piece of horse shit, 0 stars.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (DVD) – Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates are married and now living in the big city when Gizmo is back with the rest of the evil Gremlins that come along with him when you don’t follow the rules. Look for cameos from Hulk Hogan and Dick Miller in this lifeless sequel that I wonder why I abuse myself by watching. I give it ½ star.

Into the Sun (DVD) – Steven Seagal is back again as an agent of the FBI trying to take down a gang who is trying to take over all the gangs in Tokyo, Japan! Seagal is back in another direct-to-video movie that proves even if you are fat and can’t run as long as you know martial arts and talk like you smoke ten packs of cigarettes a day you can keep making movies. I love this guy and I give the movie 3 stars.

Remember folks if you’re renting from Blockbuster you’re not renting from the best! Support your local independent video store! It will keep horror alive………

I’m done with F’N bootlegs…

Posted by Tim on April 10, 2006

Call them what you want to come them: DVD-R’s, Copies, Bootlegs, they are all the same when you are buying from most vendors at horror or comic book conventions. Now first let’s get this out of the way most low budget companies out there sell there movies on DVD-R’s which is fine and they can be trusted because they want you to like their movie and they want you to tell more people about it so they can make more money to make more films! But then you got the so-called vendors which I refuse to name names that record, copy, steal, etc. horror movies, TV series, on DVD-R to sell to me the customer because I’m looking for it on DVD even though it is not available yet. Now I tend to stay away from the movies you know about that are coming out to theaters in two or three months or Japanese DVD’s that you know you’ll find to rent in your local independent video store to begin with. But I look for things like Night of the Creeps, Night of the Comet, Monster Squad, etc., movies not available on DVD yet or ever will be for that matter. So, I don’t buy much but I do buy until now. I was at Cinema Wasteland and found “Thundarr the Barbarian Cartoon series, the first and only season on DVD or whatever and it was a good price. I didn’t want to but I figured “what the fuck it can’t happen to me twice in a year. Now what I was talking about was last year at Cinema Wasteland I bought “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 which claimed to be the ultimate uncut copy of course. Well, of course I bought it, watched it, when I noticed halfway through: a) it was cutting out big time and b) and was just copied from the Laserdisc which I owned! This vendor was clever he placed in the deleted scenes wherever they were suppose to fit into the movie at. I give them ‘A’ for effort but it sucked ass big time. Why? Because of this I did some research and found out from the man himself Joe Bob Briggs which has a brief cameo in TCM2, that there is no real uncut film that exists on VHS, DVD, or whatever because mainly the scenes that were cut were only rough cuts and never finished off. And to top it all off it took me 6 months just to get a replacement copy from the vendor! Yeah, I was lucky most don’t get replacements. But I was at the vendor at Cinema Wasteland and bought “Thundarr and got home that night and pop that bad boy in only to learn that the 2 –disc set was only one disc since they forgot to record what they claim on the box on to the DVD. Now that was a kick in the fuckin ass as I was so pissed and wondered how many other shitheads got screwed by buying god only knows what! But I calmed and understood my problem and solved it by recently purchasing a “all-region DVD player (you can get on your knees and pray to me now). This means if you have problems with some vendors that just sell bootlegs you can work around this and buy DVD’s such as the Phantasm box set that is only available in the UK and not have to worry about: a) the vendor actually recorded what you want, b) did it right or just said fuck it and taped the VHS copy, c) or actually care for the product as long as he gets his $20, $25, $30 off of you! I don’t know about you horror movie fans but my ass is done buying from these guys unless it is a copy made by Anchor Bay UK or another company like that. So if you don’t care, I wish you luck in not getting fucked over like I did and I’ll sit at home and enjoy my “all-region DVD player!
