MIAMI, FL, December 18, 2006 – MTI Home Video, the largest independent home entertainment studio, will release the action-packed Casper Van Dien starrer MELTDOWN: DAYS OF DESTRUCTION on DVD February 13, 2007 (prebook: January 23). In the film Van Dien stars as a cop desperately trying to protect his family after the Earth shifts course, and heads dangerously close to the sun!

MELTDOWN: DAYS OF DESTRUCTION stars Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers, Sleepy Hollow, Titans), Vincent Gale (Battlestar Galactica, Da Vinci’s Inquest), Stefanie von Pfetten (Murder at the Presidio, The Engagement Ring),Venus Terzo (Da Vinci’s Inquest), Amanda Crew (Whistler, 15/Love), Ryan McDonell (Dr. Doolittle 3, Final Days of Planet Earth), Greg Anderson (Stargate SG-1), and Bill Dow (Kyle XY, Pasadena).

When a massive asteroid heading towards Earth only grazes the edges of its atmosphere, a potential disaster seems averted… but, in reality Earth has been knocked out of its orbit and is spiraling closer to the sun. The unprecedented solar event triggers a chain reaction that begins to destroy the ozone layer causing world temperatures to soar with deadly consequences. Tom Bracket (Van Dien), an LAPD officer, catches wind of the growing disaster and together with a team of scientists he fights against time to save the planet from solar devastation.

The film was directed by JP Howell, with the story written by John Carpenter (the Halloween series, Ghosts of Mars), and Rick Drew writing (MacGyver, The Immortal), and Harvey Kahn (Murder on Pleasant Drive, The Deal) producing.

The DVD is shown in 4×3 Full Frame Format, with Interactive Menus, Scene Selection, Optional Spanish Subtitles, and Trailers.

Brilliant plastic surgeon Dr. Yuji Kotorida is known as the “Hand of God” for his abilities. Famous for accomplishing the most difficult operations, he turns even the plainest of women into unparalleled beauties. However, since his earliest days at the operating table, he has been consumed by an obsession to taste human meat. When the temptation becomes too great, he steals some excess strips from a patient and smuggles them home for dinner, soon realizing that there is no greater ecstasy than breaking the taboo of eating his fellow man! Now he wants more, and a hidden restaurant tucked away in an obscure back street gives him the opportunity to taste fully the delights of human flesh. Returning home, he begins a murder spree and employs increasingly ingenious methods to ensure that his supply of meat will never run low…

Fans of carnivorous Asian fare like THE UNTOLD STORY will be knocked out of their seats by Osamu Fukutani’s visceral meltdown. Intelligent, provocative and unrelentingly gory, this film is sure to be a favorite for all those with the fortitude to make it through the final harrowing scene. THE LAST SUPPER is based on “The Shonan Flesh-Eating Doctor,” the latest work by renowned horror novelist Kei Ohishi. Oishi has also been successful with his novelizations of such hit movies as THE GRUDGE (1 and 2).

A controversial work with a shocking depiction of cannibalism, the Hong Kong press said it could never be made into a movie, but with the current world- wide interest in Japanese horror, the producers joined forces with the Hong Kong team responsible for the well-known CANNIBAL CAKE series, and thus turned the taboo into a reality.

The DVD is shown in letterbox format, and includes both an English dubbed version as well as the original Japanese language version with English subtitles on one disc, along with optional Spanish subtitles, a behind-the-scenes, interactive menus, scene selection, and trailers.
