News that just can’t wait for the August update!…
Gear up for one helluva show this October crew. I just finished off confirming the last of our Fall Show Guests and I can’t imagine a better person to round out our 14th Show.
JOHN AMPLAS - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native, John Amplas, would be best known to most fans as the troubled teen who may or may not be a vampire in George Romero’s classic MARTIN (1977). He was also “Dr. Ted Fisher” in DAY OF THE DEAD (1985), and appeared in Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), and CREEPSHOW (1982). John is new to the whole convention scene so let’s show him why Wasteland fans are the best fans out there when he makes a rare appearance at this October’s show. And you can catch his complete bio on the web site, naturally.
I also have it on somewhat good authority that writer and director PERICLES LEWNES will be with us in October and stationed at the Troma tables. Lewnes, as many may recall, is the man responsible for the often imitated, yet never duplicated, cult classic REDNECK ZOMBIES (1986).
And speaking of Troma, it seems the long awaited, POULTRYGEIST: Night of the Chicken Dead (2008) is ready to be unleashed upon the world at large. It will be showing in Cleveland October 3-5, 2008 at the Cleveland institute of art’s cinematheque. Yep, it’s screening over CW’s convention weekend and I’m not one to advertise anything that may take people away from the show, but hey, I’m a nice guy and Troma supports us, so I’ll mention it for them.
NOW IS A GREAT TIME TO GRAB A STACK OF POSTCARDS OR FLIERS! See my Postcard and Flier blurb below, and help us spread the word. After all, you’d hate to see me shut down the show, right?
OK, that’s all of the news not fit to wait until August for. Feel free to check out the Wasteland web site for complete guest bios, along with movies and events as we add them. Once again, it looks like Cinema Wasteland will be leading the pack as far as shows not to miss so gear up, get excited, and by all means, don’t forget to order your advance tickets TODAY to get your best price on EVERYTHING we have to offer you come October’s show.
Let’s end things with the usual batch of Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo reminders and call the July update history:
TICKETS: For everything we offer attending fans, there is no better bargain than an advance ticket to a Cinema Wasteland Show and no better time to plan to be with us than right now. No “hidden fees” at a Wasteland show guarantees every fan through the door is treated just like the person standing next to you in line; and your ticket in gets you everything we have to offer except for an autograph from our guests. Order before 9/5/08 and you can get an advance 3-Day Pass for only $30.00. Yes, that was correct: Thirty bucks. Cheap at twice the price if you ask me. You can also save $5.00 on any single day pass ordered in advance before 9/5/08. With prices for damn near everything high, there is no better way to get your moneys worth than attending a Wasteland weekend.
HOTEL: The hotel sold out in record time last show, and with every hotel and motel in the area more than likely raising prices on you by what I hear, I can’t imagine it’s not a good idea to reserve your room ASAP for October’s show. You can reserve your room by calling The Holiday Inn direct at (440) 238-8800, or reserve your room on our web site. Just remember to ask for “The Cinema Wasteland rate of $89 per night” in order to save yourself a few bucks over regular room rates, and DO NOT take the hotel up on any other offers they may mention as that won’t help you or us in the long run.
FLIERS and POSTCARDS: Updated fliers and postcards are ready to ship out. If you’d like to help spread the Cinema Wasteland word, right now is a great time to start. And we don’t expect you to download one flier off our site and print it off yourself like the cheapskate cons do either. Just say the word and we’ll be more than happy to send you a stack of fliers or postcards for the October show to pass out. Bars, specialty shops, video stores, tattoo parlors, college campuses, music stores… All good places for Wasteland attendees to hang out. If you frequent any place that you think may be a good place to put a stack of fliers and you’d like to help spread the Wasteland word, then by all means, get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to send off a stack. As always, any help in spreading the word about the show is appreciated and actually helps prevent ticket prices from going up in the long run.
VIDEO FOOTAGE: I’m always looking for any and all footage fans may have shot over the course of the weekend. I’m particularly interested in the panels, guest talks, and Ghastlee’s Saturday night live show, but I love to check out whatever anyone shoots at the show. I used to get a lot of footage from people for my personal collection, but it’s slowed down greatly over the past couple of years (so I’m really looking for footage from the past three or four shows). We’re the only show out there that let’s attending fans shoot anywhere they want, so hey, give a little back to the guy who makes it happen for you fans. Our PO Box address is at the bottom of every update we send out…
All kinds of conventions and film festivals going on between now and when we get a break off the road in September. Don’t forget to punch up MEET THE WASTELAND on the main web page to see if we’ll be attending any shows in your area. After 21 years of growing old, fat, and gray in this business, it’s always great to run into Wasteland fans past and present when we’re on the road.
Cheers,
Ken
